Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes expressed indifference toward his placement in the NFL Top 100 player rankings released recently, emphasizing his focus on winning Super Bowls instead. The initial segment of the 2025 list, covering players ranked 100 to 90, debuted last week, but Mahomes made clear that the ranking holds little meaning for him.
Mahomes Prioritizes Championships Over Rankings
During an interview with Kay Adams on Up and Adams, Mahomes dismissed concerns about his ranking, indicating that external opinions do not affect his goals. He stated,
“They can rank me wherever they rank me, At the end of the day, all I’m trying to do is win Super Bowls, and I don’t care where I am on that list, no offence.”
He acknowledged the depth of talent in the league, adding,
“I know it’s like a year-by-year thing, and so there’s a lot of great quarterbacks, a lot of great players in this league.”
Recent Achievements Highlight Mahomes’ Impact
Mahomes has led the Chiefs to two Super Bowl victories in the past three seasons but was denied a third consecutive title after a 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last year. In 2024, he surpassed legendary quarterbacks Tom Brady and Roger Staubach by securing the most wins in their first 100 NFL games following a Week 3 victory against the Atlanta Falcons. Additionally, Mahomes helped the Chiefs set a franchise record for single-season wins after a decisive Week 17 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Looking ahead, the Chiefs have an opportunity to match the record for consecutive Super Bowl appearances if they win the AFC Championship for the fourth time, joining the Buffalo Bills, who reached four consecutive Super Bowls from 1990 to 1993 but did not secure a championship.
Team Rebuilds with a Focus on Fundamentals
After falling short last season, Mahomes emphasized the need for the Chiefs to recommit to basics and intense preparation.
“We go back to square one,”
he said.
“Our fundamentals, practicing the right way, put in the work, put in the effort to prepare ourselves, because everybody is getting better.”
FanDuel Sportsbook currently ranks the Chiefs with the fourth-best odds to win the Lombardi Trophy in the upcoming season, at +800, marking their least favorable Super Bowl odds since the 2022 preseason.
