Corey Seager Nearing Return: Rangers Hope He Boosts Struggling Offense Soon
Corey Seager nears return from hamstring injury, boosting hopes for the struggling Texas Rangers' offense.

The Texas Rangers are preparing for the possible return of Corey Seager, who is nearing a comeback from a hamstring injury that has sidelined him since May 13. Seager’s return is anticipated to provide much-needed support to the Rangers’ offense, which has been one of the weakest in Major League Baseball this season.

Currently, Texas holds fourth place in the American League West, trailing the Seattle Mariners by five games and enduring a five-game losing streak that has led to a record falling two games below .500. The team’s offense, in particular, has been a significant point of concern, ranking just above the Colorado Rockies in runs scored, with only 172 through the season.

Offensive Struggles Highlight the Rangers’ Season Challenges

While the Rangers’ pitching staff ranks among the better ones in the league—only the New York Mets, Kansas City Royals, and Minnesota Twins have allowed fewer runs—this strength has not been enough to offset the team’s offensive troubles. The Rangers are struggling to generate runs consistently, which has contributed to their shaky positioning in the division.

Without stronger hitting, Texas looks unlikely to replicate the success that brought them a World Series title two seasons ago, and instead risks missing the playoffs again. Seager’s return is viewed as a vital step toward boosting the lineup and turning the season around.

Bruce Bochy Optimistic About Seager’s Imminent Return

Manager Bruce Bochy expressed optimism about Seager’s progress after the shortstop faced live pitching for the first time since his injury.

“I could see him playing next weekend at home,”

Bochy remarked.

“I mean, that’s how well he’s doing. Continue to get live BP when we get home on Monday. Could be even a little sooner. Who knows? That’s how good he looks.”

Seager, a two-time World Series Most Valuable Player and in the fourth year of a 10-year, $325 million contract, has posted a .300 batting average with six home runs and 12 RBIs in 26 games this season. His hamstring troubles began in late April, leading to two stints on the injured list and limited playing time since then.

Supporting Players Adjusting Roles During Seager’s Absence

During Seager’s time away from the field, Josh Smith has primarily filled the shortstop position. Smith is expected to shift back to a super-utility role once Seager returns, changing the team’s infield dynamics. Additionally, outfielder Evan Carter is making progress toward his own return but will need to complete a minor-league rehabilitation assignment before rejoining the Rangers.

Carter, who struggled against left-handers in spring training and initially failed to make the team, was called up in early May. He has hit .182 with one home run and three RBIs in 11 games so far this season.

Upcoming Hopes and Expectations for the Rangers’ Offense

With the Rangers battling below .500 and attempting to regain their footing in a competitive AL West division, the return of Corey Seager is seen as a positive turning point. His experience and offensive output could lift a lineup that currently ranks near the bottom in scoring, potentially helping Texas climb the standings and remain in playoff contention as the season progresses.
