Nikola Jokic prepares for summer with Serbia's national basketball team, aiming for success in upcoming international competitions.

After the Denver Nuggets fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Semi-Finals, Nikola Jokic now has the opportunity to focus on representing the Serbia national basketball team this summer. The team will compete in Group B, facing Estonia, Latvia, Portugal, Czechia, and Turkiye, aiming to extend their presence in the Riga-hosted tournament.

Coach Pesic Highlights Jokic’s Continuous Development

During an interview with Meridian Sport at the EuroLeague Final Four in Abu Dhabi, Serbia’s head coach Svetislav Pesic praised Jokic’s evolving skill set and experience. He noted that Jokic’s game improves yearly and pointed to enhancements in both offensive and defensive transition play, as well as his increasing three-point shooting ability.

Above all, on quality and knowledge. Well, yes, on experience too—he’s already… He’s progressing every season. Last year, he improved his transition play, both in offense and defense. Now he’s shooting more three-pointers, even though he could do that before, too,

Jokic’s Past Contributions to Serbia’s International Play

At EuroBasket 2022, Jokic posted strong numbers, averaging 21.7 points, 10 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, though Serbia was eliminated in the Eight-Finals by Italy. Last summer at the Olympic Games in France, he maintained impressive performances, averaging 18.8 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 8.7 assists over six games, helping Serbia secure the bronze medal.

Looking Ahead to Serbia’s Role in the Summer Tournament

Jokic’s steady progress and leadership provide Serbia with significant hope for success in the upcoming event. With his All-NBA First Team status reaffirmed and a continually expanding skill set, his presence will be critical in navigating the competitive field in Riga. The team’s ability to build on previous experiences could shape their journey this summer, leaving fans and observers optimistic about their potential performance.
