Azura Stevens’ Season-High Sparks Los Angeles to 91-78 Win Over Chicago Sky

LOS ANGELES — Azura Stevens scored a season-high 24 points, fueling the Los Angeles Sparks to a 91-78 win over the Chicago Sky on Sunday and ending a three-game losing streak. Kelsey Plum added 28 points, including six three-pointers, as the Sparks improved to 2-3 on the season.

Los Angeles had not won since its season opener against the expansion Golden State Valkyries, making this victory a key turning point.

Contributions from Multiple Sparks Players

Odyssey Sims contributed 12 points, while Dearica Hamby posted 10 points along with six rebounds, eight assists, and a career-best six steals, helping sustain the Sparks’ momentum throughout the game.

Chicago Sky’s Effort Falls Short Despite Strong Performances

The Chicago Sky (0-3) were led by Angel Reese, who tallied 13 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Kamilla Cardoso scored 12 points on efficient 6-of-9 shooting. Courtney Vandersloot and Rebecca Allen each added 11 points in a team effort that fell short.

Key Moments in the Second Half

Shortly after the second half began, Stevens hit a three-pointer that gave the Sparks a 51-48 lead, a margin they would not relinquish. A few minutes later, her second three-pointer sparked a 9-0 run, expanding the lead to 15 with just two minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Chicago’s Reese cut the deficit to 76-71 with a late 10-0 run, but Sarah Ashlee Barker answered with a jumper. Stevens then scored consecutive baskets, followed by a pull-up jumper from Plum that pushed the lead back to 13 points with under five minutes left in the game.

Looking Ahead to Upcoming Games

The Sky will face Phoenix on Tuesday, continuing their search for a first win. Meanwhile, the Sparks will conclude their three-game homestand Tuesday against Atlanta, aiming to build on this promising performance.
