Inside Julius Randle’s Family Life: How His Mother’s Strength Shaped the Timberwolves Star’s Journey
Julius Randle's rich family background shaped his determination, from his single mother's support to raising three children with Kendra.

Before becoming a three-time NBA All-Star, Julius Randle was a determined young talent from Dallas, driven by the support and resilience within his family background and personal life. His upbringing was shaped primarily by his mother, Carolyn Kyles, who raised him as a single parent after his father, Matthew Randle, was largely absent during his childhood.

Kyles, an athlete herself, played college basketball at UT Arlington during the 1980s, where she demonstrated solid performance in the 1984-85 season with 176 points, 169 rebounds, and 17 assists over 27 games. Originally from Newton, Texas, she eventually moved to Dallas, providing the foundation for Julius’s early basketball ambitions. Randle credits her influence as a major factor in his perseverance and drive, recalling her role in driving him to games and emphasizing the importance of focus.

While details about his father remain limited, it is clear that Carolyn’s role as a single mother played a significant part in molding Julius’s character both on and off the court. Besides Julius, the family includes his sister, Nastassia Caldwell, who remains in Dallas and has established a career in accounting. Nastassia earned degrees from Collin College and East Texas A&M, and she has worked with companies such as TrueCare24, Pegasus Good Inc., and currently holds the position of Accounts Receivable & Credit Specialist at Goliath. She is also a mother to three children.

Julius Randle’s Immediate Family: Wife and Children

Julius Randle’s wife, Kendra, has been an important part of his life since their days together at the University of Kentucky. Their relationship began following a meeting at Kendra’s birthday party while she was studying fashion design. Several years later, the couple became engaged and married in 2017 at The Resort at Pelican Hill.

Kendra has developed her own career alongside Julius, launching the fashion brand Kalore in 2020. She credits her grandparents as sources of inspiration behind her entrepreneurial journey. Balancing her role as founder and CEO of Kalore, she also raises their three children with Julius.

Their children include sons Kyden, born in 2016, and Jayce, born in 2021, followed by their daughter Romi Joelle, who arrived in April 2025. The family’s support system continues to be a crucial element in Julius’s ongoing basketball career.

Julius Randle’s Current NBA Career and Family Influence

In the 2024-25 NBA season, Julius Randle has been a key player for the Minnesota Timberwolves, averaging 18.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists through 69 starts. Over the course of his career, which now exceeds 700 games, he has maintained averages of 19.0 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, showcasing his consistent impact on the court.

However, behind the impressive statistics and accolades lies the strong influence of his family—particularly his mother Carolyn, sister Nastassia, wife Kendra, and their children. Their collective role has been pivotal in his journey from a young boy in Dallas to a celebrated NBA star.
