Following their clash at UFC 296, Ferguson expressed optimism about Pimblett’s future in mixed martial arts and acknowledged the progress he has made.

Ferguson reflects on Pimblett’s recent achievements and career path

At UFC 296, Paddy Pimblett secured a unanimous decision win over Tony Ferguson, extending his winning streak to seven consecutive fights. This victory marked a significant milestone in Pimblett’s career, as he defeated a former interim lightweight champion on a prominent stage. Conversely, Ferguson’s loss added to his own series of defeats, raising questions about his standing within the UFC. Despite the setback, Ferguson praised Pimblett’s solid trajectory and potential for continued success.

In a candid interview with The Schmo, Ferguson emphasized that fighters like Pimblett possess notable talent and determination, which is recognized by the UFC through competitive matchups. He stated:

“I believe the athletes that I fight, they’ve always had a bright future otherwise [the UFC] wouldn’t have made that matchmaking. And secondly, I think that [Pimblett] has the opportunity, he’s got a lot of fuel for the fire to be able to get the training done. I think the more structure that he keeps everything the way he has been, listens to his coaches, I think the kid has a bright future in this sport. I think he’s doing a great thing.”

Why Ferguson decided to unblock Pimblett on social media

Ferguson also addressed the decision to unblock Pimblett on Instagram, explaining that he wanted to move past any personal resentment and focus on positively contributing to the growth of the sport. He highlighted the importance of avoiding negativity and embracing a collaborative mindset within the MMA community. Ferguson remarked:

“I never hated on [Pimblett]. I even unblocked him on Instagram… Yeah, for sure. So, I mean, when it goes into it, it’s not about being sensitive and doing anything like this. It’s growing the sport and having fun with it and not getting too personal with people, but going in a different way and a direction that we all want to see it grow.”

Looking ahead to Pimblett’s continued ascent in the UFC

With Pimblett’s recent streak and Ferguson’s endorsement, the English fighter’s outlook remains promising, provided he maintains discipline and remains coachable. Ferguson’s insights underscore the importance of growth, structure, and a strong work ethic in sustaining success within the UFC’s competitive environment. As Pimblett advances, the MMA world will be watching closely to see if he can build on his momentum and climb higher in the rankings.
