Saints running back Kendre Miller is entering the offseason with a clean slate after facing challenges with health and performance during his first two NFL seasons. Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore emphasized that Miller’s past struggles will not influence his outlook moving forward as he begins work with the team’s offseason program.
First day was a blank slate (for Miller). Whatever’s happened in the past, we acknowledged, but it has no bearing in the future,
Moore said, via SaintsWire.
Buccaneers Add Record-Setting Player with Focus on Development
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers recently signed defensive tackle Desmond Watson from Florida, who holds the distinction of being the heaviest player in NFL history at 449 pounds. While Watson appreciates the record, he is determined to be recognized primarily for his football abilities rather than his weight.
I feel like my name is etched in history, of course, as being the official heaviest player in the NFL, and whatnot,
Watson said, via ESPN’s Jenna Laine.
It’s a good story, but at the same time, I don’t want that to be my narrative and things like that. I want to be known as a football player, and a good football player at that. But it is nice to be able to make history, I guess.

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles made it clear that Watson’s role will be carefully developed as the team does not expect him to contribute immediately on the field. Instead, they plan to focus on increasing his endurance and helping him progress gradually.
Right now, we just have to see how long he can stay on the field, and [we] put him on a program where we think he can make some progress,
Bowles explained.
We didn’t get him to say, ‘Hey, we have to put you on the field right now.’ It’s, ‘Hey, we can try to put you on this program and see what we can come up with and see if we can get our endurance better,’ and have him become a better player that way, then kind of see where he is.
Additionally, Buccaneers cornerback Zyon McCollum highlighted improvements in the defensive backfield’s teamwork, noting enhanced chemistry as various defensive backs come together in meetings.
Panthers’ Defensive Enhancements and Optimism for the Season
Carolina Panthers have bolstered their defense with the addition of pass rusher Patrick Jones II, who joins after four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. Jones expressed confidence that the Panthers’ defense could reach or exceed the high level the Vikings achieved last year.
I definitely think we could do something similar, if not better,
Jones stated, via ESPN’s David Newton.
I’ve seen it before, so I know what it looks like. I look around the building and see we have exactly what it takes to do that.
Panthers defensive tackle Derrick Brown is already back on the field for offseason workouts, marking eight months since his meniscus surgery. Wide receiver Xavier Legette expressed excitement about the addition of first-round draft pick Tetairoa McMillan, calling him a “masterpiece.”
Position Changes and Player Development Across Teams
Kellen Moore also mentioned the positive progress of Saints offensive lineman Trevor Penning as he transitions from tackle to guard, describing Penning’s adjustment as going very well and seeing the new role as a great opportunity.
He’s doing an excellent job, and he’s embracing it. We feel like guard presents him a great opportunity.
