Lavonte David Reflects on Historic Career and Legacy as Buccaneers’ Defensive Legend in 14th Season
Lavonte David's incredible career legacy shines with record-breaking tackles, sacks, and forced fumbles, solidifying his place in NFL history.

Lavonte David, a cornerstone of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defense, continued to showcase his elite skills throughout the 2024 NFL season at age 34. Standing out as the only player that year with over 100 tackles, more than 5.0 sacks, and at least three forced fumbles, David reinforced his reputation for excellence by joining a select group of linebackers who have reached those marks in recent NFL history. These peers include Antoine Winfield Jr. in 2023, Shaquille Leonard in 2018, and Thomas Davis in 2015.

During the 2024 campaign, David recorded 122 tackles, nine tackles for loss, six quarterback hits, and achieved a career-best 5.5 sacks. His role expanded in blitz strategies and coverage against tight ends, leveraging his exceptional ability to read plays and execute tackles with perfect technique. His impressive football IQ and physical prowess have positioned him among the best linebackers of his generation, as well as one of the most distinguished players in Buccaneers history.

In March 2024, David secured a one-year contract extension with Tampa Bay and is on track to tie Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Brooks for the second-longest tenure in franchise history during the 2025 season. To date, David ranks second on the team in total tackles, leads in forced fumbles and fumble recoveries, and is tied for sixth in sacks. Since tackle tracking began in 1994, he is one of only four linebackers to surpass 1,500 tackles, 35 sacks, and 10 interceptions, alongside NFL greats Bobby Wagner, Ray Lewis, and London Fletcher.

David recently appeared on the “Up & Adams” show hosted by Kay Adams, where he reflected on his longevity and performance entering his 14th NFL season with the Buccaneers.

It feels great and it feels like an accomplishment, honestly, to have had the opportunity to play this game for 14 years,

said David.

I never thought I would be in this position first and foremost. I thought I would be long gone by now but it is here. Thank God and thank the Bucs for keeping me around. It is definitely a blessing.

Rachaad White Supports Youth Fitness Through Summer Program Initiative

Meanwhile, Buccaneers running back Rachaad White got involved in community outreach by promoting teen fitness at Planet Fitness. The high school Summer Pass Program offers free gym access to teens aged 14-19 from June through August, encouraging physical activity and mental wellness during the summer break. White participated in an event with local high school students who pre-registered for the program, engaging with them to emphasize the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle.

Working out is so important for your health because of physical reasons, of course, but also your mental health,

White explained.

This is a great opportunity to do something good for your soul and body—it makes you happy…

I would say to the teens, as I have been in their shoes before, just having this opportunity to get a free pass for a summer, I’d tell them to do it and enjoy it…and tell a friend about it. The more teens do it with their friends or buddies, the more accustomed they will become to it.
