Jon Jones Subtly Slams Colby Covington as Most Overrated UFC Fighter in Cryptic Message
Jon Jones labels Colby Covington an "overrated fighter," revealing their past roommate rivalry in the UFC.

UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones recently suggested that the most overrated fighter in the UFC has the initials C.C., an obvious reference to former interim welterweight champion Colby Covington. Although Jones avoided naming Covington explicitly, his remarks left little doubt about whom he was targeting. This statement came amid Jones’ reflections on fighters he dislikes in the promotion.

Jones and Covington share a complicated history, having been roommates during their time at Iowa Central Community College. Their relationship deteriorated after they both entered the UFC, engaging in a public spat fueled by trash talk. Currently, Colby Covington is struggling with back-to-back losses, recently defeated by Leon Edwards and Joaquin Buckley, which adds context to Jones’ sharp comments.

During an interview on the DeepCut podcast, Jones stated:

“Overrated. That’s funny. I could say his name but it’s really just because I don’t like him and saying his name gives him clout which I also don’t want to do. But his inititals are C.C. and he’s a total douchebag. If you watch the sport, people would know who I’m talking about.”

Jon Jones Explores His Coaching Role in Thailand Alongside Nate Diaz

Aside from fighting, Jon Jones has recently been involved in coaching for a Russian reality TV show filmed in Thailand, which is a localized version of ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’ His coaching stint coincided with Nate Diaz’s team participation, although tensions resulted in Diaz and his group leaving after a violent altercation on set. Despite the disruption, Jones remained to continue filming.

Jones spoke highly of Nate Diaz, emphasizing the positive aspects of their experience working together, rather than framing it as a rivalry. He stated:

“I don’t look at it as a rivalry. I’m honored to be here with Nate Diaz. I’ve always been a fan of Nate Diaz. He’s an absolute legend in the sport. Him and his brother are legends. The way I look at it is, I’m coming out here to try to motivate the boys, to inspire the boys, try to teach them something new, and just share with the guys.

“Ultimately, whether one of my guys wins or Nate’s guys win, I feel like we all win, because we get to know each other, we get to be together, and share something that we all enjoy.”

Implications of Jon Jones’ Remarks and Future Prospects

Jones’ cryptic callout of Colby Covington as overrated shines a light on the ongoing personal and professional tensions between two notable UFC figures. Given Covington’s recent defeats and Jones’ dominant position as heavyweight champion, this statement may reinforce perceptions about Covington’s current standing in the sport.

Meanwhile, Jones’ involvement in coaching and media projects like the Russian reality show suggests he is expanding his role outside the octagon, building influence and connections in MMA beyond fighting alone. His positive remarks about Nate Diaz highlight a respect for veteran fighters, even while Jones maintains his competitive edge.

This episode adds another chapter to the complex narratives shaping the UFC landscape, where rivalries, alliances, and career trajectories continue to influence the sport’s dynamics and fan engagement going forward.
