Richard Childress Shares Austin Dillon’s Crucial Advice on Kyle Busch’s Nashville Spin Incident
Austin Dillon advises Kyle Busch on Nashville spin: "Hit it wrong, and it’ll just turn sideways on you."

Kyle Busch confirmed last weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway that he will continue racing with Richard Childress Racing through the 2026 season. Despite this positive development, mechanical problems persisted as Busch’s No. 8 car experienced a steering issue that prevented him from completing any laps during practice. In the race, Busch managed to qualify 24th and finish 15th.

At Nashville Superspeedway the following week, Busch made it onto the track for practice but faced new challenges. During the session, the 40-year-old driver lost control of his Chevrolet, resulting in a spin. The incident underscored the ongoing difficulties the team has been wrestling with.

Team Communications Reveal Causes and Reactions to the Nashville Spin

After the spin, crew chief Randall Burnett explained over the radio that Busch had

“just get loose over the bump.”

Busch then added his perspective, stating,

“I was loose before the bump. Spinning out on entry. It was all on the right rear through the corner, and then it hit the bump and spun out.”

The dialogue between driver and crew chief indicated the complexity of the situation and how the car’s handling had gone awry during that part of the track.

Richard Childress himself entered the radio conversation to check on the situation, asking spotter Derek Kneeland,

“Hit anything Derek or just spun?”

Kneeland responded,

“No, just half spun. He caught it. Went straight through the grass.”

Childress then relayed vital advice he had received from Austin Dillon during the incident, explaining,

“Yeah, Austin said when he hit it, you hit it wrong, it’ll just turn sideways on you.”

Richard Childress’s Ongoing Role and the Impact of Austin Dillon’s Advice

Childress’s involvement in team communications is longstanding, and Busch is accustomed to the owner’s direct feedback. With his contract extension secured, Busch understands he will continue to receive this kind of attention from Childress for at least a few more years.

The advice from Austin Dillon during the Nashville practice provided crucial insight into the cause of the spin. It emphasizes how small errors in handling the bumps on the track can quickly lead to loss of control, affecting practice sessions and race performance.
