Jets Insider Calls Justin Fields’ Performance at OTAs ‘Exceptional’ and Game-Changing for 2025 Season

New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields delivered an impressive performance at the team’s recent OTAs, showcasing his dual-threat capabilities in a contact-free environment. His display during these offseason sessions has caught the attention of NFL insiders, signaling potential impact as the Jets prepare for the 2025 season.

Justin Fields Shows Promise During Offseason Workouts

Evaluating player performance during OTAs is often difficult because there is no contact or full-pad action, yet Fields stood out with flashes of high-level play. The unofficial nature of these practices—the so-called “underwear Olympics”—means quarterbacks often look sharp throwing without defenders, but Fields managed to impress beyond the usual offseason visuals.

NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger attended one of the Jets’ OTA sessions and observed Fields closely. Baldinger praised Fields’ agility and passing on the move, describing the quarterback as “exceptionally fast” and noting how he “threw well on the run.” He witnessed Fields consistently “piercing the Jets’ defense” during drills and appreciated that Fields took all the No. 1 offensive repetitions.

“He was on the move quite a bit and threw well on the move. You saw him basically piercing the Jets’ defense routinely. I thought he threw the ball well on the run. He took all the No. 1 repetitions with the starting offense. They used him in a variety of ways, but running the ball, he stood out.”

Jets’ Offensive Plans Highlight Fields’ Dual-Threat Skills

Known for his running ability as much as his passing, Justin Fields is expected to be a focal point in Jets offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand’s game plan for 2025. How exactly Engstrand will utilize Fields’ mobility remains uncertain, but the quarterback’s movement and versatility are likely to play a significant role in boosting the team’s offensive productivity.

While OTAs offer only a glimpse and must be viewed cautiously, Fields’ current form raises expectations for what could be a pivotal season in his career. The true test, however, will come when pads are on and defenses are live, starting with Week 1 of the regular season.
