Tony Finau Finishes T31 at 2025 Memorial Tournament Despite Strong Sunday Recovery
Tony Finau finishes T31 at the 2025 Memorial Tournament after strong Sunday performance, concluding with an even par round.

Dublin, Ohio – Tony Finau, the Utah native and PGA Tour professional, finished tied for 31st place at the 2025 Memorial Tournament, held from May 29 to June 1 at Muirfield Village Golf Club. Despite a difficult third round, Finau rebounded with a solid even-par performance on Sunday, ending the tournament at +5 overall.

After a tough start on Sunday, Finau faced a challenging front nine, marked by a double bogey on the second hole and two additional bogeys on holes three and seven. This left him three over par halfway through the final round, dimming hopes for a higher finish.

Strong Second Nine Performance Highlights Finau’s Final Day

Turning the course around, Finau delivered an impressive comeback on the back nine. He began with back-to-back birdies on holes ten and eleven and capped off his round with another birdie on the eighteenth hole, helping him to recover some of the earlier damage.

This late surge demonstrated Finau’s skill, particularly with his short game, which was one of the standout elements of his play throughout the tournament. Statistically, he ranked tied for eighth in strokes gained around the green and 22nd in strokes gained approaching the green, indicating strong performance in crucial scoring zones.

However, his long-game accuracy and putting were less consistent. He was tied for 52nd in driving accuracy and 41st in putting strokes gained, areas that likely contributed to his inability to break into the top 30.

Impact of Third Round and Overall Field Difficulty

While Finau’s Sunday recovery was encouraging, his third round struggles appeared to be the key factor keeping him from a higher finish. Had he performed better in the previous round, Finau might have comfortably placed within the top 15, as even par for the entire tournament was sufficient for a tie at twelfth place.

The tournament itself was a difficult test for many, with the winning score at ten under par, achieved by Scottie Scheffler, who secured his second signature event victory of the season with this win.

Overview of Tony Finau’s 2025 Season and Career

Tony Finau, originally from Salt Lake City, has been a professional golfer since 2007 and has accumulated nine wins, six of which have come on the PGA Tour. The 2025 Memorial Tournament marked his 12th competition of the season.

Earlier in 2025, Finau showed signs of consistency with a tie for 15th at The Sentry in January but followed that with missed cuts at The American Express and the Farmers Insurance Open. He later improved with notable finishes like 13th and 5th place at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Genesis Invitational, respectively.

Finau’s March included a tie for 36th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and a 32nd place tie at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, but also a missed cut at THE PLAYERS Championship. A brief slump followed in April, with two finishes outside the top 30 and another missed cut at the Masters. However, he regained momentum with a tied for 15th finish at the Truist Championship in May.

Throughout his recent seasons, Finau’s performance has shown resilience, and while the Memorial Tournament was challenging, his solid recovery on Sunday underlined his ability to fight back.
