Evan King celebrates French Open success by proposing to girlfriend Sydney Gawlik, marking a memorable engagement at Roland Garros.

American doubles specialist Evan King marked a memorable French Open season by becoming engaged to his girlfriend, Sydney Gawlik, in Paris. King’s success on the tennis court this year, highlighted by a deep run at Roland Garros, made the engagement celebration even more special.

Strong French Open Performance and Personal Milestone in Paris

At the French Open, King, seeded ninth in the men’s doubles with partner Christian Harrison, advanced to the semifinals before losing a tight match to British duo Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski, 7-6, 3-6, 6-7. Additionally, King reached the mixed doubles final alongside Taylor Townsend, finishing as runners-up to the Italian team of Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori. Off the court, King proposed to Sydney Gawlik, a talented American filmmaker and photographer known for her work with artists like Hozier and major brands including Apple and Amazon. The couple shared the engagement news on Instagram, with Gawlik playfully hinting at a name change.

Evan King’s Career Revival in His Early Thirties

Since joining the ATP circuit in 2013, Evan King has carved out a strong doubles career despite a modest singles ranking peak at No. 185. Now ranked No. 18 in doubles, King is experiencing a resurgence fueled by his partnership with Christian Harrison. At the University of Michigan, King was a standout competitor from 2010 to 2013, earning three ITA All-American titles and being named Big Ten Athlete of the Year twice while setting the school record for combined singles and doubles wins with 195.

The King-Harrison duo gained momentum earlier this year by winning two ATP tournaments in Dallas and Delray Beach in quick succession. Reflecting on his achievements during the Roland Garros run, King expressed gratitude and belief in his potential:

“I wouldn’t still be playing if I didn’t believe that I could achieve some of these goals I have set for myself. I’m happy to get a little bit of validation of the things I thought were possible.” —Evan King, Professional Tennis Player

Looking Ahead to Grass Court Season and Future Goals

Following his success on clay, King aims to build on his momentum for the grass court season. Having reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon last year with Christopher Eubanks, he hopes to progress further this year alongside Harrison. The pair’s recent performances have positioned them as formidable contenders moving forward, blending experience with renewed confidence in their abilities.
