Real Betis is preparing to sell players to finance a permanent transfer of Manchester United winger Antony, following his loan spell at the club last season. The 25-year-old Brazilian winger showcased solid performances during his loan, making 26 appearances and contributing nine goals and five assists across all competitions.
Antony’s Impact During Loan and Potential Transfer Details
Most of Antony’s contributions came in La Liga, where he delivered five goals and two assists in 17 matches. Under Manuel Pellegrini’s guidance, Betis finished sixth in the league, earning a spot in the UEFA Europa League. After his loan ended, Antony returned to Manchester United, but Betis is eager to secure him permanently. The transfer fee is estimated between €30 and €40 million, and Betis is willing to offload players to fund this signing.
Antony’s Struggles at Manchester United
Antony may need to accept a wage reduction to complete the deal, as his spell at Old Trafford has been underwhelming compared to previous performances. Since joining United from Ajax in the summer of 2022 for around €95 million, Antony has made 96 appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists—a sharp decline from his Ajax record of 24 goals and 22 assists in 82 games.
Manchester United’s Difficult Season Overview
Manchester United endured a disappointing league campaign, finishing 15th after a narrow 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on the final day. Their efforts in domestic cups were also curtailed, with an FA Cup exit in the fifth round following a penalty shootout loss to Fulham, and a 4-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup. Despite struggles at home, United reached the UEFA Europa League final but were edged out 1-0 by Tottenham, who ended a 17-year wait for a trophy. Consequently, United will miss out on European football next season for the first time in ten years.
