Blue Jays Reveal Latest Anthony Santander Injury Update Ahead of Phillies Showdown
Anthony Santander updates: Light baseball activities resume before Blue Jays face the Phillies, but cautious timeline for return.

The Toronto Blue Jays are entering Friday’s rematch against the Philadelphia Phillies in strong form, maintaining momentum despite dealing with multiple injuries. As the hottest team in the American League, Toronto has averaged 6.4 runs per game over its last 14 contests and has won five consecutive series, even without some of its regular starters.

Among the sidelined players is outfielder Anthony Santander, who has not appeared since May 30 due to left shoulder inflammation, which placed him on the 10-day injured list. Before his injury, the 30-year-old posted a struggling slash line of .179/.273/.304, with six home runs and a .577 OPS.

Manager Provides Update on Santander’s Recovery Progress

Blue Jays manager John Schneider delivered a cautiously optimistic report on Santander’s status ahead of the Phillies game. He revealed that Santander has recently resumed “light baseball activity,” incorporating gentle throwing and some batting swings into his routine. However, the team is taking a careful approach with his recovery, anticipating that his return will take longer than that of teammate Daulton Varsho.

“It’s light catch, swinging a bit. I think he’ll be a little bit longer than Varsho, to be honest with you,”

Schneider said via MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson.

Santander’s Return Could Boost Toronto’s Offensive Depth

After a difficult start to the season marked by shoulder issues and inconsistent hitting, a full recovery for Santander would provide the Blue Jays with a much-needed power bat. His past success, particularly during his time in Baltimore, suggests he could offer valuable offensive firepower as Toronto aims to solidify its playoff position.

Currently second in the AL East with a 38-30 record, the Blue Jays hope that Santander’s eventual return will help sustain their current winning streak and strengthen their lineup for the critical stretch ahead.
