NHL insider Chris Johnston has reported that Marchand could expect a multi-year contract exceeding his previous $6.125 million average annual value with the Boston Bruins. Johnston noted,
“I’ve been saying he’s probably going to get a three-year contract. The more I talk to people around the league, the more I feel he might even get a four-year contract in free agency.”
Financial and Roster Challenges Could Complicate Signing Marchand
Johnston also identified the Toronto Maple Leafs as a reasonable fit for Marchand, especially considering Treliving’s public remarks about the team’s desire to alter its DNA.
“They have cap space to spend,”
Johnston said.
“Brad Treliving said he’s looking for a DNA change. It could be a DNA transplant.”
At 36 years old, Marchand has demonstrated strong performance throughout Florida’s playoff run this season. Johnston explained.
