How Jarren Duran Turns Fenway Park’s Green Monster Into His Hitting Advantage in 2025
Jarren Duran thrives at Fenway Park, leveraging the Green Monster to enhance his hitting and rack up extra-base hits.

Jarren Duran is leveraging Fenway Park’s unique features to boost his offensive performance this season. Through 36 games at Fenway, the Boston Red Sox outfielder is hitting an impressive .312/.374/.510, showcasing his ability to thrive at home by maximizing his connection with the ballpark, particularly the Green Monster.

Using the Green Monster to Generate Extra-Base Hits

Duran’s strong performance at Fenway appears to be more than coincidence, as he leads Major League Baseball in combined doubles and triples since the start of 2024 with 87. A significant factor in this success is his skillful use of Fenway’s left field wall, the Green Monster, to accumulate extra-base hits that stay in the park rather than clearing the fence.

“I do love the Green Monster,”

Duran said in an interview with MLB.com’s David Adler.

“It’s definitely become my best friend as of recently. We’re having a pretty good relationship so far.”

Home Runs vs. Doubles: A Strategic Approach

Duran has hit 14 of his 19 doubles this season at Fenway, relying primarily on hitting to left field rather than Fenway’s shorter right-field fence. As a left-handed hitter, he has embraced hitting the ball to the opposite field, using the Green Monster to his benefit instead of aiming for home runs over the right-field fence.

According to David Adler, Duran has collected 26 doubles and triples off the Green Monster since 2024—more than any other player hitting off his home park’s wall in MLB.

“Everybody always tells me, ‘Just pull the ball,’ and I’m like, ‘I’m not a pull hitter,’”

Duran explained.

“I see how much shorter it is. I’m like, ‘I wish I could just pull the ball over there.’ But, of course, I use the biggest part of the field, the opposite side of the field.”

Adjusting Approach for Road Games

While Duran excels at Fenway with his opposite-field hitting strategy, on the road he adapts to find gaps for more impactful hits. In 2025, he has already recorded three triples away from Fenway, building on last season’s strong road performance of 10 triples. This ability to adapt helps maintain his effectiveness against different pitching and ballpark layouts.

Playing to Strengths Against Upcoming Opponents

As a career .281/.343/.466 hitter at home, Duran’s use of the Green Monster fits naturally into his playing style. He remarked,

“It plays into my game,” so it always works out for me.”

This weekend, Duran aims to continue exploiting Fenway’s left field wall advantage against three left-handed starters: Ryan Yarbrough, Carlos Rodon, and Max Fried, as the Red Sox host the New York Yankees.

Implications of Duran’s Home Field Strategy

Duran’s ability to consistently generate doubles and triples off the Green Monster offers the Red Sox a reliable offensive weapon at home. His approach not only boosts his individual stats but also creates scoring opportunities for the team. As the season progresses, maintaining this edge could be pivotal in tight games against divisional rivals like the Yankees.
