Reds’ Terry Francona Shares Latest Hunter Greene Injury Update Amid Strong Pitching Performance
Hunter Greene's injury update: sidelined with groin strain, but his pitching performance remains impressive this season.

Cincinnati Reds’ starting pitcher Hunter Greene has demonstrated continued excellence this season following a breakthrough year in 2023. At 25 years old, Greene currently holds a 4-3 record with a 2.72 ERA in 11 starts, showcasing steady progress in his pitching performance and overall consistency. This momentum aligns closely with his previous career-best season, where he finished 9-5 with a 2.75 ERA across 26 starts.

Greene’s pitching stats reflect notable improvements; his WHIP stands at a career-best 0.97, and opposing batters have managed an on-base percentage of just .254 against him this year. Additionally, Greene has not allowed more than two runs in any start since April. Despite missing games since June 3 due to a groin strain, he remains tied for 35th in Major League Baseball with 73 strikeouts.

Update on Hunter Greene’s Injury and Rehabilitation Plans

Before the Reds’ game against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, manager Terry Francona provided an update regarding Greene’s current injury status. Francona acknowledged that Greene’s recovery would require additional time. This marks Greene’s second stint on the injured list due to a groin problem.

Reporter Charlie Goldsmith of FOX19 elaborated, stating,

“It’s going to take a little longer this time,”

and added,

“It’s his second stint on the IL with a groin injury.”

He also noted,

“Greene will rehab in Arizona at the complex.”

The team is prioritizing Greene’s full recovery during his rehabilitation period to ensure a safe return to play.

Cincinnati Reds Face Challenges Amid Player Injuries

The Reds have encountered difficulties recently, losing two consecutive games and holding a 6-4 record over their last 10 matchups. Currently, Cincinnati sits fourth in the NL Central, trailing the division-leading Chicago Cubs by seven games and four games behind a Wild Card position.

In their ongoing series against the Detroit Tigers, the Reds were defeated 11-5 in the opening game on Friday. Losing Saturday’s contest would result in dropping the series to Detroit, a team boasting baseball’s best record at 46-25. For the Saturday matchup, right-hander Brady Singer, who holds a 6-4 record with a 4.59 ERA, is set to take the mound for Cincinnati.
