A Look at Xander Schauffele’s Major Championship Journey

Over the years, Schauffele has shown strong performances in major tournaments, yet the coveted victory at Augusta National has eluded him. His closest effort at the Masters came in 2019 when he tied for second place alongside Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson. That tournament was notable for Schauffele leading with 25 birdies, making him only the third player since 1980 to reach that mark, following legends Jordan Spieth and Phil Mickelson. Despite this, he finished just one stroke behind Tiger Woods, who claimed his fifth green jacket.

After numerous near wins in majors, Schauffele captured his first major title at the 2024 PGA Championship. He delivered a record-breaking 263 total, one stroke ahead of Bryson DeChambeau. The final hole was pivotal, as Schauffele birdied the 18th to avoid a playoff and achieve the lowest winning score in major history. Viktor Hovland followed in third place, while Thomas Detry and Collin Morikawa shared fourth.

At the U.S. Open, Schauffele has not yet claimed a title, but his 2019 showing was notable. He tied for third place with Jon Rahm, Chez Reavie, and Justin Rose, finishing six shots behind winner Gary Woodland and three shots off runner-up Brooks Koepka.

Following his PGA Championship victory, Schauffele also won the 2024 Open Championship. He wrapped up the tournament with a final-round 65, shooting 9-under 275 overall. This made him the first player to close both the PGA and Open Championships with rounds of 65.

Schauffele won the Open by two strokes over Billy Horschel and Justin Rose, with Thriston Lawrence finishing in solo fourth place.
