Lydia Ko and Danielle Kang will reunite as teammates at the 2025 Dow Championship, taking place from June 23 to 29 at Midland Country Club. This renewed partnership highlights their close friendship and shared history in professional golf, with Ko recently supporting Kang by caddying for her during U.S. Women’s Open qualifying.
A Renewed Team Effort at Midland Country Club
The pair previously competed together in last year’s Dow Championship, where they finished tied for 27th at 12-under-par. Kang, currently ranked 460th in the Rolex Rankings, has faced a difficult 2025 season, having played in 10 tournaments without a top-10 finish or a win, and making the cut in only four events. This year also marked her first time missing the U.S. Women’s Open since 2009, with her best major finish being fourth place in 2018.
In contrast, Ko, ranked third in the world, has had a more successful season. She has competed in eight events, claiming victory at the HSBC Women’s World Championship and securing three top-10 finishes while making the cut in every tournament she entered.
The Deep Friendship Behind Their Partnership
Lydia Ko and Danielle Kang have shared a strong bond for over ten years, ever since their first meeting at the 2011 U.S. Women’s Amateur. Kang, who won the amateur title in 2010, was defending champion when she met Ko, who was already aware of Kang’s reputation and eager to connect with her.

“She’s like my little sister, and I think everybody knows that,” Kang said of Ko at the LPGA Gainbridge event in 2022 (via The Strait Times).
The two have maintained their friendship throughout their professional careers, supporting each other on and off the course. Ko once commented on their relationship, saying:
“I think she’s a great role model and really looks after her family and friends… Everybody that knows her well will be able to say the same thing. … Ten years, it’s just gone by so quick.”
Lydia Ko’s Continued Support on the Course
Earlier this year, showing the strength of their friendship, Ko traveled from Texas to San Francisco after the first major to assist Kang during the U.S. Women’s Open qualifying rounds at The Olympic Club’s Lake Course. She went beyond encouragement by caddying for Kang throughout the full 36 holes, carrying her bag throughout the challenging test.
What This Partnership Means for the Future
The renewed Lydia Ko and Danielle Kang Dow Championship partnership not only brings together two major champions but also reflects a meaningful personal connection that fuels their teamwork. As they prepare for the 2025 competition, this collaboration could boost their performance and visibility on the LPGA Tour, offering fans a compelling narrative of friendship and resilience. Their bond demonstrates how mutual support in professional sports often extends beyond competition, potentially shaping their future successes together.
