Joey Logano reflects on his cautious approach during the NASCAR Mexico race, prioritizing safety over sightseeing.

Joey Logano began his race from ninth position at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City on Sunday. Throughout the event, Logano experienced some conflict with fellow driver Austin Dillon, who pushed him off the track into the grass; however, Logano later got his payback during the race. Ultimately, the Team Penske driver finished in 21st place. This measured approach allowed him to avoid the misfortunes that affected other competitors during the event.

Logano’s Cautious Mindset During the Mexico Visit

During his regular appearance on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio’s Behind the Wheel segment on Tuesday, Logano opened up about his experience during the race weekend in Mexico City. At 35 years old, the three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion revealed that his focus was primarily on the race itself, rather than exploring the Mexican capital. He admitted feeling uneasy about traveling abroad, describing his mindset as that of a “nervous traveler.”

“I’m like the nervous traveler if I’m being honest,”

Logano said.

“Like, I don’t leave the country very often, so when I do, I’m like, I’m nervous I’m gonna lose my passport. I’m nervous I’m gonna get sick. I’m nervous I’m gonna get kidnapped. Like I’m thinking of all the worst possible scenarios in the world, alright.”

Because of those concerns, Logano stayed strictly within the safe zones approved by NASCAR, limiting his movements to the hotel and racetrack.

“It was fine down there, OK. But, I’m like, I’m not leaving this hotel. I’m like, nope. I’m going from hotel to racetrack, racetrack to hotel. This is the place that NASCAR trusts us to be. I feel like this is where I should be.”

Keeping Safe and Healthy During the Trip

Logano also praised the hospitality at his hotel, where multiple dining options were available.

“They had like three different restaurants in there. Tried them all. All of them were great. And I didn’t get sick. All I know is there was like five drivers on race day that were not feeling so hot. And I was like, I did the right thing. I’m still feeling okay. So it, it all worked out.”

His cautious behavior not only helped him stay physically well but also allowed him to maintain focus on his race performance despite the challenges on the track. This contrasted with other drivers who experienced difficulties both during and after the event.
