Tyrese Haliburton Set to Play Game 6 Despite Lingering Calf Injury, Pacers Coach Confirms

Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle confirmed that Tyrese Haliburton insisted on continuing to play during Game 5 against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday, despite struggling with a calf injury. Carlisle acknowledged Haliburton is not at full strength but expects him to participate in the upcoming Game 6.

Details on Haliburton’s Condition During Game 5

At halftime of Game 5, reports from ESPN’s Shams Charania noted that Haliburton was experiencing tightness in the same calf that had been injured the previous week. Despite debates about sitting the 25-year-old point guard out, Haliburton returned to the court for the second half and played a total of 34 minutes in the Pacers’ 120-109 defeat to the Thunder.

He initially logged slightly over 10 minutes in the first quarter before heading to the locker room. After receiving treatment and having his lower leg wrapped, Haliburton reentered the game with 8:27 remaining in the second quarter.

Persistent Leg Issues Impacting Haliburton’s Play

The leg injury has been an ongoing concern throughout the series. Haliburton appeared to be limping following Game 2 but downplayed the issue before Game 3, stating,

“Really just a lower leg thing. I’ll leave it at that. I don’t think there’s anything more to elaborate.”

—Tyrese Haliburton, point guard

During the first four games of the Finals, Haliburton had been averaging 17.8 points, 7.5 assists, and six rebounds. However, Game 5 marked the first time in 36 playoff appearances that he did not score in the first half. He ultimately finished the game with four points, seven rebounds, and six assists.

Outlook for Game 6 and Team Impact

Coach Carlisle stressed that while Haliburton is not 100 percent, he is likely to play in Game 6. The point guard’s decision to push through the injury highlights his determination to contribute to the team despite physical limitations. How Haliburton’s performance evolves in the next game will be key for the Pacers as they aim to recover following their recent loss.
