Andy Roddick Sees Djokovic Closing Gap on Alcaraz and Sinner for Wimbledon 2025 Title
Andy Roddick believes Djokovic stands a strong chance at Wimbledon 2025, closer to winning than in other tournaments.

Andy Roddick has shared his perspective on Novak Djokovic’s chances at Wimbledon 2025, highlighting the Serb’s position behind reigning two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz and World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in preseason betting odds. Djokovic is poised to continue his pursuit of an unprecedented 25th Grand Slam title at SW19, a venue where he has historically thrived.

Although Djokovic holds 24 Grand Slam titles, his performance since the start of the 2024 season has not consistently matched his legendary standards. Despite this, he still delivers peak tennis in critical moments, such as his appearance in the Paris Olympics final. However, his dominance has been challenged by the emerging generation of stars, particularly Sinner and Alcaraz, who have claimed the last six Grand Slam trophies evenly.

Djokovic’s recent head-to-head results reflect this shift: since 2024, he lost to Sinner at the Australian Open and French Open, and to Alcaraz at Wimbledon in both 2023 and 2024. Injuries further disrupted his campaigns at the 2024 French Open and the 2025 Australian Open, hampering his momentum.

Early Wimbledon 2025 Betting Odds Highlight Top Contenders

As Wimbledon 2025 approaches, early betting odds place Alcaraz and Sinner equally favored at +150. Djokovic follows at +600, showing that while not the favorite, he remains a strong contender. Behind him, players like Jack Draper (+900), Alexander Zverev (+1600), Lorenzo Musetti (+2000), Taylor Fritz (+2800), and Daniil Medvedev (+3300) appear as notable challengers.

Regarding these odds, Andy Roddick expressed optimism about Djokovic’s chances, believing the grass-court setting and match format could level the playing field with the younger frontrunners.

“Listen, Novak at 6 to 1 odds? That’s a great number for him. He was in the finals last year, let’s not forget that. I think it’s his best Slam to potentially get in a mix. I think he’s closer to Sinner and Alcaraz, best-of-five format at Wimbledon as opposed to the other places,” said Roddick (1:25 onwards)

Jimmy Connors Reflects on Djokovic’s Challenges and Opportunities

On his podcast Advantage Connors, tennis legend Jimmy Connors weighed in on Djokovic’s potential to win Wimbledon again. Connors acknowledged Djokovic’s remarkable success across all Grand Slam surfaces but noted the inevitable impact of aging on his performance, especially in lengthy matches.

“Sure. Why not? I mean, he’s had success on all the Grand Slam courts and surfaces, and it’s been pretty amazing,” Connors said. (32:23 onwards)

Connors also explored how younger top players view Djokovic as a benchmark for their own breakthroughs.

“It happens to every athlete. You can’t beat age, can’t beat it because when you get older, your competition is younger, and when they come in and want to make their name, like Sinner or Alcaraz, they want to use you, the older guy, now Djokovic, as their stepping stone. To beat Novak and be able to tell your kids, ‘Hey, I beat Djokovic at Wimbledon’, that’s big.”

Additional Perspective: John Isner Urges Djokovic to Complete His Grand Slam Quest in 2025

Further commentary on Djokovic’s prospects comes from John Isner, who recently asserted that the Serb must seize the opportunity to secure his 25th Grand Slam title within 2025 itself. This adds to the intensity and anticipation surrounding the upcoming Wimbledon event, as Djokovic strives to etch an even more remarkable legacy in tennis history.
