Mookie Betts and the Los Angeles Dodgers hosted a celebrity softball game on Thursday evening as part of the Black Heritage Night celebrations at Dodger Stadium. This event coincided with Juneteenth recognition, aiming to honor Black heritage while providing an engaging and lively experience for fans.

Betts teamed up with former Lakers forward Matt Barnes to coach the two competing celebrity teams. Both coaches offered in-game commentary while wearing custom Juneteenth cream and black jerseys adorned with Betts’ celebrity softball game patch on the sleeve, symbolizing the event’s significance.

I’m super excited to host the first celebrity softball game on Black Heritage Night,

Betts said in a statement.

It’s going to be a good time with great vibes, and something I hope to do for years to come. Thank you to everyone who is playing in the game and helped put on this event.

Following the celebrity game, the Dodgers were set to complete their four-game series against the San Diego Padres, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m. PT. Fans were encouraged to arrive early, as Dodger Stadium gates opened at 5:10 p.m. to allow ample time to enjoy the softball game starting at 5:30 p.m.

A special ticket option was also available, including access to a custom Black Heritage Night jersey. This jersey was exclusive to ticket pack purchasers through the Dodgers and not part of a stadium-wide giveaway, providing fans a unique keepsake from the event.

Music and Entertainment Complement the Evening

Before and after the celebrity softball game, the Harmony Project performed along the warning track in the outfield. This Los Angeles–based music education organization focuses on empowering low-income families and under-resourced communities through music, aligning with the night’s message of heritage and unity.

DJ Severe contributed to the festive environment by playing walk-up songs for the celebrity players and providing music between innings, enriching the fan experience with lively and energetic soundtracks.

Nashville-Inspired Food and Drink Offerings at Dodger Stadium

In honor of Mookie Betts’ hometown of Nashville, Dodger Stadium featured specialty food and drink items themed around the city. Fans enjoyed Nashville hot chicken wings and Mookie’s mac and cheese, which were available in the left field plaza, right field plaza, and reserve sections 4 and 31.

Sweet potato pie topped with whipped cream was offered at field section 46 and reserve section 2, while Mookie’s Music City Mule, a signature cocktail, was served at multiple bar locations throughout the stadium, adding a local flavor to the evening’s refreshments.
