C.J. Mosley Announces NFL Retirement: A Look Back at an All-Pro Linebacker’s Legendary Career
C.J. Mosley, a five-time All-Pro linebacker, retires after an impressive NFL career marked by standout performances and injuries.

C.J. Mosley, a five-time All-Pro linebacker who has been a prominent player for the Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets, announced his retirement from the NFL in a statement to CBS Sports. The 32-year-old, who was released by the Jets in March following a season limited by injuries, is concluding an 11-year professional career marked by consistent excellence on defense. The news highlights his notable achievements as he steps away from the game.

Career Milestones and On-Field Performance

Selected by the Ravens in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, Mosley spent five seasons in Baltimore before joining the Jets, where he played for six years. During his Ravens tenure, he earned four All-Pro honors and helped the team rank among the top nine defenses in scoring for four out of five seasons, peaking at second overall in 2018. His career statistics include 1,083 tackles, 12 sacks, 12 interceptions, and 53 pass break-ups. Before an injury-shortened final season with the Jets, Mosley had a remarkable streak, recording at least 152 tackles per year over three consecutive seasons—tying an NFL record for most consecutive years with 150-plus tackles.

Collegiate Foundation and Lasting Legacy

Before entering the NFL, Mosley had a distinguished college career at Alabama under head coach Nick Saban. He was a two-time All-American and played on back-to-back national championship teams. In 2013, he earned the prestigious Butkus Award and was named the Southeastern Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year, cementing his reputation as an elite linebacker. His achievements at both collegiate and professional levels have left a lasting impact on the teams he represented and on defensive play across the league.
