Derrick Henry Refuses to Set Retirement Date, Eyes Future Beyond NFL Career
Derrick Henry, 31, focuses on winning a Super Bowl, with no immediate plans for retirement from the NFL.

Derrick Henry, the 31-year-old running back with an impressive 2,355 career carries in regular-season games, has no plans to retire anytime soon despite his extensive workload. When asked about his retirement timeline during a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Henry responded,

“I don’t know. I don’t try to put a timetable on when I want to be done,”

adding,

“Whenever I feel like it’s time to hang them up, I’ll hang them up. Until then, you’re gonna see me.”

Exceptional Durability and Performance Defy NFL Running Back Norms

While the modern NFL often views running backs as athletes with short career peaks, Henry continues to excel even with a heavy workload. Last season, he led the league with 16 rushing touchdowns and recorded 325 carries for 1,921 yards as a key member of the Baltimore Ravens offense. This marked the fourth time in six years that he eclipsed 300 carries in a season, underscoring his rare durability. In 2023, despite not reaching 300 carries, he still led the league with 280 carries while playing for the Tennessee Titans.

Ranking Among NFL’s Elite Despite Missing a Super Bowl Victory

Henry’s remarkable achievements include being a future Hall of Famer, earning an Offensive Player of the Year award, earning five Pro Bowl selections, leading the league three times in touchdown runs, and two times in rushing yards. However, a Super Bowl ring continues to elude him. With the Baltimore Ravens viewed as strong contenders for the 2025 season, Henry alongside quarterback Lamar Jackson is expected to build on last year’s close two-point defeat to the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional Round.

Retirement Delay May Hinge on Achieving Ultimate Team Success

Given his competitive drive and current trajectory with the Ravens, it seems likely Derrick Henry will defer retirement considerations until clinching the Lombardi Trophy. His commitment to the game and team success suggests his focus remains on extending his NFL career while pursuing that elusive championship.
