Justin Verlander activated off injured list, set to pitch for Giants against Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday night.

San Francisco Giants right-handed pitcher Justin Verlander has been taken off the 15-day injured list and is scheduled to start against the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday night. Verlander’s activation marks his return after dealing with soreness in his right pectoral muscle that sidelined him since late May.

Injury Details and Recent Performance

The 42-year-old Verlander experienced trouble during a start against the Oakland Athletics on May 18, struggling with both velocity and command. A throwing session three days later aggravated the issue, prompting the Giants to place him on the injured list. This season, Verlander has yet to secure a win in 10 starts, recording an 0-3 record with a 4.33 ERA, 41 strikeouts, and 21 walks over 52 innings pitched in his first year with San Francisco.

Veteran Career Highlights

Verlander’s career spans 20 seasons in the majors, highlighted by his three American League Cy Young Awards and the 2011 AL MVP honor. A nine-time All-Star, he holds a career record of 262 wins and 150 losses, accompanied by a 3.31 ERA across 536 starts.

Additional Roster Moves: Bailey Activated, Others Sent to Triple-A

The Giants also reinstated catcher Patrick Bailey from the 10-day injured list after recovering from a neck issue. At 26, Bailey is coming off a season where he earned the National League Gold Glove award as catcher. This year, he is batting .185 with one home run and 16 RBIs in 56 games.

To accommodate these activations, San Francisco optioned catcher Logan Porter and right-handed pitcher Tristan Beck to Triple-A Sacramento. Porter appeared in four games with the Giants, going 1-for-7 at the plate, while Beck, who turns 29 soon, held a 1-0 record with a 4.50 ERA over six relief outings.

Looking Ahead for Verlander and the Giants

Verlander’s return is highly anticipated as the Giants seek to strengthen their pitching rotation during a pivotal stretch of the season. His vast experience and previous accolades provide hope for better performances moving forward. Meanwhile, Bailey’s return adds depth to the catcher position, reinforcing San Francisco’s roster as they prepare for upcoming matchups, including Wednesday’s contest against the Cleveland Guardians.
