McLaren driver Lando Norris attracted attention by displaying a new luxury watch at the F1 movie premiere in New York this week, offering fans an inside look at the star-studded event. The occasion saw several F1 drivers walking the red carpet on Monday atop Rockefeller Center, dressed in stylish monochrome ensembles.
Norris shared glimpses of his red carpet outfit on social media, revealing a navy Reiss suit paired with a Richard Mille watch. The timepiece was a Richard Mille RM 72-01 in white ceramic, a limited edition model with only 150 pieces worldwide, created to honor the 24 Hours of Le Mans motorsport race held concurrently with the recent Canadian Grand Prix.
Background of Norris’ Previous Luxury Watch Incident
This was not the first instance Norris attracted notice for his luxury watches. He was previously seen wearing a Richard Mille 67-02, valued at £144,000, during the 2021 Euros final at Wembley. Unfortunately, that evening took a dark turn when he was robbed in a car park by two assailants who put him in a headlock and took the watch from his wrist.
The watch was an extremely rare design, one of only five in existence. The case led to a trial at Harrow Crown Court in 2023, where a 25-year-old man from Bootle, Merseyside, was accused of being involved in the robbery. DNA evidence reportedly linked the suspect to Norris’ wrist, but the accused denied the charges and was eventually acquitted.
Norris described the experience as leaving him “shaken” but confirmed he was physically unharmed.
Significance and Future Outlook in the World of F1
The premiere event allowed Norris to move past the previous troubling incident by highlighting his ongoing presence in both motorsport and luxury fashion circles. His choice to wear a symbolically significant and highly exclusive watch reaffirmed his status among F1’s elite, while also subtly signaling resilience after the robbery drama.
As the F1 season progresses, Norris remains a key figure to watch, both on and off the track, with attention likely continuing on his driving performance as well as his public appearances amid the sport’s glamorous backdrop.
