Victor Wembanyama returns from Shaolin retreat and ended his social media silence on Friday by posting a straightforward question. The San Antonio Spurs forward had been away in China, dedicating time to a spiritual retreat at the Shaolin Temple in Henan province, where he immersed himself in local culture, even shaving his head as part of the experience.
His break from the public eye concluded with a tweet asking,
“Où est-ce qu’on peut regarder le match 7 sur Paris??,”
which means
“Where can we watch match 7 in Paris?”
signaling his interest in the upcoming NBA Finals Game 7. This marked Wembanyama’s first social media activity since his retreat began.
Wembanyama’s Interest in NBA Finals and Recent Season Overview
Victor’s return to social platforms coincided with growing anticipation for the decisive Game 7 of the NBA Finals, scheduled for Sunday between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Indiana Pacers. This game carries extra excitement, prompting Wembanyama to seek viewing options despite being overseas.
Last season, Wembanyama’s sophomore campaign was curtailed due to a diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis shortly after the All-Star break in February 2025. Before his season ended, he posted impressive averages of 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 3.8 blocks per game, shooting efficiently at 47.6% from the field and 35.2% from beyond the arc.
He was also a strong contender for the Defensive Player of the Year award but missed qualification due to playing only 46 games during the 2024-25 season.
Potential Partnership with Kevin Durant Could Alter Spurs’ Future
The San Antonio Spurs endured a difficult season after losing Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox to season-ending injuries, finishing 13th in the Western Conference with a 34-48 record and missing the play-in tournament by five games. However, their struggles led to securing the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, providing a valuable asset for trades.
One high-profile name connected to the Spurs’ future plans is Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant. With the Suns anticipated to consider moving Durant this summer, San Antonio is reportedly among Durant’s preferred destinations. This raises the intriguing possibility that Wembanyama might join forces with Durant next season, though no official trade discussions have been confirmed at this stage.
The potential addition of Durant could transform the Spurs, aiming to rebuild around their young star while adding veteran leadership and scoring prowess.
