Kurt Busch Opens Up on His Crucial Role Supporting Kyle Busch’s Son Brexton’s Racing Rise
Kyle Busch actively supports son Brexton's racing career, alongside uncle Kurt, building a promising legacy in NASCAR.

Kyle Busch supporting son Brexton’s racing career is gaining attention as the young driver begins to make his mark in junior racing divisions. Kyle Busch and his brother Kurt Busch, two of NASCAR’s most accomplished siblings, boast a combined 96 Cup Series wins and multiple championships, carrying a proud family legacy forward. Their success has set a high bar, and now the next generation, led by Kyle’s son Brexton, appears ready to build on that remarkable foundation.

Brexton has already become a rising star within the junior ranks, backed by sponsorships and resources provided through Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) and Richard Childress Racing (RCR), the teams associated with his father. Both Kyle and Kurt lend their extensive experience and mentorship to guide his development, tapping into their expertise as seasoned winners known for extracting every ounce of performance from their cars.

Kurt Busch’s Role Behind the Scenes in Brexton’s Development

During a recent appearance as grand marshal at the Pocono Raceway weekend broadcast on Amazon Prime Video, Kurt Busch shared insights about his involvement in assisting Brexton’s racing career alongside his brother Kyle. Although Kyle remains the primary figure overseeing Brexton’s progress, Kurt actively helps in securing sponsorship deals and arranging racing opportunities for his nephew.

Kurt described a recent instance involving a chance for Brexton to compete in a Legends car event at Sonoma Raceway in Northern California, which he helped coordinate.

“All the time. I mean, this past week, there was a Legends car opportunity for my nephew, his son, Brexton, to race in Northern California, when they’re out there at the Sonoma track. So, I was trying to help line that up for them,”

he explained.

Kurt emphasized his ongoing support in managing sponsorships and corporate relationships to advance Brexton’s career, while making clear that Kyle currently has primary control.

“You know, whether it’s decals or sponsorship, or even a corporation. If there’s a chance to help Brexton’s career move forward, those are things that I’m doing behind the scenes. But not all that much. I mean, Kyle’s got it under control,”

Kurt stated.

Kyle Busch’s Challenging 2025 Season Amid Family Commitments

While the focus on Brexton’s emerging career gathers momentum, Kyle Busch himself has encountered a difficult 2025 season. After sixteen races, he has managed only one top-five finish and has not won an event since 2023. His team at Richard Childress Racing is still striving to return to championship contention, a battle described by former RCR driver Jeff Burton as an uphill struggle against the sport’s top teams.

Burton remarked,

“Kyle Busch is trying to take RCR to the fight to Joe Gibbs Racing, take the fight to Penske, take the fight to Hendrick and it’s hard, it’s difficult and he’s doing it in a way that instead of fighting for a championship, at the moment he’s fighting to see if he can contend for a championship.”

He further highlighted the emotional toll this competitive strain is taking on Kyle Busch, reflecting on the harsh realities of NASCAR racing.

“That’s draining emotionally, that’s difficult. This is a brutal sport: this sport, you love it and at the same time it’ll rip your heart out… We’re watching Kyle Busch try to take RCR [and] try to take himself back to where they both have been and with the pressure of just making the playoffs,”

Burton added.

Looking Ahead: The Future of the Busch Racing Legacy

The Busch family’s story is one of resilience and determination, with Kyle Busch striving to revive his team’s fortunes despite recent setbacks, while mentoring the promising Brexton as he begins carving out his own path. With Kurt Busch supporting behind the scenes and Kyle managing sponsorships and racing strategy, Brexton’s development appears well-guided, carrying the promise of extending the family’s success into a new era.

This generational transition underscores the profound impact of mentorship and collaboration in motorsports, as two former champions work to ensure that Brexton receives every opportunity to compete and succeed. The coming races will reveal how Kyle’s comeback efforts unfold and how Brexton continues to rise through the ranks, potentially setting the stage for the Busch name to remain dominant in NASCAR for years to come.
