Red Sox Manager Alex Cora Slams Controversial Ejection of Jarren Duran After 9-5 Loss
Jarren Duran's controversial ejection sparks debate during Red Sox's game against the Giants, leaving fans divided.

Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran was ejected during Sunday’s series finale against the San Francisco Giants following a disputed call in the eighth inning. The incident occurred after Duran singled and attempted to advance to second base, only to be tagged out by shortstop Willy Adames on a throw from Mike Yastrzemski. A replay review was requested but ultimately upheld the original ruling, provoking frustration from Duran and leading to his first career ejection in Major League Baseball. Red Sox manager Alex Cora was also ejected after challenging the decision.

Alex Cora Criticizes Umpire Doug Eddings Over Ejection

After the game, Cora expressed strong dissatisfaction with the outcome of the replay and the umpiring. Defending Duran’s position, Cora insisted the outfielder was safe and criticized the umpiring crew.

“Yeah, you know what, he (Jarren Duran) was safe, clearly. He comes out of the bag.”

He suggested that Duran’s ejection was a response to his player voicing disagreement with the officials rather than an objectively clear rule violation. Cora also mentioned other controversial decisions affecting the series:

“I think he got thrown out because he voiced his opinion. I’ll be the one getting in trouble,” Cora said. “The check swing on Friday, the play at the plate, if I’m going to get thrown out, just make it worth it.”

Jarren Duran Responds Calmly Despite Frustration Over Call

Duran appeared visibly upset during the ejection but adopted a measured tone when reflecting on the situation afterward. Acknowledging the difficulty of the game and the inability to reverse the call, he sought to focus forward rather than dwell on the incident.

“I don’t really have an opinion on it. I saw what I saw, they saw what they saw. At the end of the day, I can’t change it. This game’s hard enough — we shouldn’t dwell on one play,” Duran said. “We just kind of brush it off.”

Rafael Devers’ Trade Adds Complexity to Series Outcome

The series also carried added narrative weight as the Red Sox recently traded third baseman Rafael Devers to the Giants. Devers played a significant role in San Francisco’s 9-5 series-clinching win on Sunday, highlighting the stakes for Boston in the American League East matchup. The loss and the controversial ejection have added pressure on the Red Sox as they look to regroup heading into future games.
