Ryan Blaney’s Remarkable Pocono Race Comeback Earns Heartfelt Praise from Wife Gianna Tulio
Ryan Blaney's incredible comeback at Pocono earned him a podium finish, showcasing his resilience in a tough race.

Ryan Blaney delivered a strong performance at the Pocono Raceway on Sunday, overcoming several setbacks to claim a third-place finish in the NASCAR Cup Series race. His wife, Gianna Tulio, expressed deep admiration for his resilience after the grueling event marked by heat and technical difficulties.

Blaney, driving the No. 12 Ford for Team Penske, faced multiple challenges throughout the 260-lap race at the 2.5-mile tri-oval in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. Starting at the rear of the field due to a mandatory starter change, his cool-suit malfunctioned early in the race amid soaring temperatures in the mid-90s. Additionally, a speeding penalty under caution further complicated his race day. Despite these obstacles, Blaney steadily advanced to finish on the podium.

Setbacks at Pocono Tested Blaney’s Endurance and Skill

Early in the race, Blaney experienced a failed cooling system around lap 15, which caused severe dehydration and muscle cramps during the hot conditions. This physical challenge forced him to continue racing under extreme discomfort. After the race, he needed assistance from the AMR Safety Team to reach medical help, highlighting the toll the heat took on him.

Before the race, Blaney qualified 20th but slipped to the back of the field after the required starter replacement. He later incurred a speeding penalty during a pit stop on lap 56, which set him back once more. Despite this, he managed to lead laps during green-flag pit cycles, demonstrating the speed and capability of his car.

Blaney’s Determination Praised by Gianna Tulio on Social Media

Gianna Tulio, who married Blaney in December 2022, shared her admiration in an Instagram story, writing:

“So proud of my hunny for the fight he put on today. No one like him” —Gianna Tulio

This public show of support underscores the husband’s relentless focus and perseverance that helped him recover from a difficult starting position and mid-race penalties to reach the podium.

Blaney Reflects on Overcoming Adversity Through Team Effort

In a post-race interview at Pocono Raceway, Blaney opened up about the early cool-suit failure and its effects on his race day.

“I flipped it on probably Lap 15. I was like, ‘Oh, this is going to be a long day’. It was warm, but I was able to keep going,” Ryan Blaney said.

“Really proud of the whole 12 guys from starting in the back, making good ground. Then me speeding set us back again, having to come back up there. Obviously, I would have liked to have won. I think after having to start in the back, then the mistake I made, I feel like we recovered really well. Our car was fast enough to do it,” he added.

His remarks highlight both personal accountability and confidence in the team’s performance, attributing the recovery to their collective effort and the car’s competitiveness.

Upcoming Challenges Keep Blaney Focused on NASCAR Playoffs

Currently sixth in the NASCAR Cup standings with 503 points, Blaney has recorded seven top-five finishes and one win this season, having clinched his playoff spot earlier in Nashville. He will next compete at the Atlanta Motor Speedway for the season’s 18th race, following a recent fourth-place finish at the same track during the spring event.

The NASCAR Cup Series will also kick off its first in-season challenge, the Quaker State 400, on TNT, providing another opportunity for Blaney to build momentum as the season progresses.
