Rangers Secure Adam Edstrom with Two-Year Contract Extension After Breakout Season
Adam Edstrom secures a two-year contract extension with the New York Rangers, cementing his future with the team.

The New York Rangers have officially extended forward Adam Edstrom’s contract for two more years, team President and General Manager Chris Drury announced today. The extension follows a promising 2024-25 season where Edstrom demonstrated significant growth and impact on the ice, reinforcing his value to the Blueshirts going forward.

Strong Contributions Mark Edstrom’s NHL Progression

At 24 years old, Edstrom has appeared in 62 NHL games over parts of two seasons, accumulating 11 points through seven goals and four assists. During the 2024-25 campaign, he set career-best marks with five goals, four assists, and nine points in 51 games. In addition to his offensive improvement, Edstrom stood out for his physicality, ranking third on the Rangers with 94 hits before a lower body injury ended his season on February 1. At that point, his 94 hits were the fourth-highest among NHL rookies for the season, underscoring his toughness and aggressive style of play.

Recognized as Top Rookie and Early Career Milestones

Before the 2024-25 season began, Edstrom was awarded the Lars-Erik Sjoberg Award, which is given annually to the most impressive Rangers rookie in training camp as selected by the media. The Karlstad, Sweden native first entered NHL action in the 2023-24 season, playing 11 games and scoring two goals while maintaining a plus-two rating. He recorded his first NHL goal during his debut game on December 15, 2023, against Anaheim, marking an important milestone early in his professional career.

Development Through International and Minor League Experience

Edstrom’s path to the NHL included significant time in both European and minor league systems. Before turning professional in North America, he played five seasons in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), tallying 48 points over 189 games with Rogle BK and Mora IK. His most notable achievement overseas was helping Rogle BK capture the Champions Hockey League title in 2021-22. In the American Hockey League (AHL), Edstrom contributed 17 points in 43 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack across the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, steadily adjusting to the North American style of play.

Looking Ahead: Edstrom’s Role in the Rangers’ Future

Originally drafted by the Rangers in the sixth round (161st overall) of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Edstrom’s steady progress, highlighted by his recent breakout season, positions him as a key piece in New York’s lineup moving forward. This contract extension signals the Rangers’ confidence in his continued development and ability to contribute both offensively and physically. With his size, skill, and work ethic, Adam Edstrom is expected to play an increasingly important role in the team’s push for success over the next two seasons.
