Justin Verlander’s Winless Streak Hits MLB and Giants Record in Tough Start to 2025 Season
Justin Verlander's winless streak extends to 12 starts, marking the longest in his career and Giants' history.

Justin Verlander, a future Baseball Hall of Famer with 262 career MLB pitching wins, has yet to secure a victory for the San Francisco Giants in the 2025 season. On Tuesday night at Oracle Park, the Giants fell 4-2 to the Miami Marlins, extending Verlander’s frustrating winless streak. During this game, Verlander pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits and issuing one walk, resulting in his 0-5 record after 12 starts with the Giants.

This stretch marks the longest winless run of Verlander’s acclaimed career, as noted by Associated Press journalist Michael Wagaman, and it also sets a new record for the longest winless pitching streak in Giants history. Before joining San Francisco, Verlander had never experienced such a prolonged period without a win in his major league tenure.

Verlander Accepts Responsibility Following Continued Difficulties

Despite these ongoing challenges, Verlander has taken full accountability for his performance. The three-time Cy Young Award winner addressed reporters after the game, stating,

“It’s not on them, it’s on me,”

according to KNBR. He added,

“I haven’t put us in a good position… can’t expect to get any wins when you go out there every time and give up 3+ runs and don’t go deep into games.”

At 42 years old, Verlander is facing a difficult phase, carrying a 4.52 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 61.2 innings this season.

Giants Turn to More Reliable Starters Amid Verlander’s Struggles

Looking ahead, the Giants plan to shift starting duties away from Verlander in their ongoing series against the Marlins. Their next pitcher, Logan Webb, has shown greater consistency with a 7-5 record and a solid 2.49 ERA, providing hope for a turnaround as the team seeks to improve its standing early in the season.
