Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. left Thursday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians after being struck on his right forearm by a pitch in the third inning. The incident occurred with a runner on second base while the Blue Jays held a 3-0 lead.
Facing Guardians starter Tanner Bibee at a 2-2 count, Guerrero showed visible frustration after the pitch hit him and was attended to by the training staff before exiting the game. Davis Schneider replaced him defensively ahead of the fourth inning, with Ernie Clement shifting to first base and Andres Gimenez moving to shortstop as Schneider took over second base.
Blue Jays Confirm Forearm Contusion, X-Rays Reveal No Fracture
The Blue Jays later confirmed that Guerrero suffered a right forearm contusion. He underwent precautionary x-rays that showed no fractures, allowing the team to breathe a sigh of relief. At the time of the injury, Guerrero was batting .282 with 11 home runs, 40 RBIs, and an .837 OPS over 78 games this season.
This injury will be monitored closely, but the negative x-ray results indicate no immediate structural damage. Guerrero’s exit from the game did not affect the Blue Jays’ performance, as they secured a victory over the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
