Jackson Holliday Opens Up: How He Excels at Golf More Than His MLB All-Star Dad

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday recently shared insights on the skill in which he outperforms his father, Matt Holliday, a former MLB player and seven-time All-Star. Speaking during an interview with Ryan Ripken, Jackson revealed that golf is the area where he notably excels beyond his dad.

Jackson detailed the difference in their approach to golf, explaining how Matt’s patience quickly runs out after a few poor shots, leading him to give up on the game early. Despite Matt’s frustration on the golf course, Jackson acknowledges that his father remains highly skilled in multiple other sports.

Golf Skills Highlight Distinction Between Father and Son

Jackson discussed how Matt Holliday’s competitiveness shines through in many sports, but golf presents a unique challenge for him.

“I mean he’s pretty good at most things,”

Jackson said.

“He can’t stand I’m way better at golf, but other than that, he also has no patience when it comes to golf. He’s like, hit one good shot and he’s like, ‘Oh, this is fun.’ And then he hits like five bad ones, and he’s done.”

Jackson further revealed that Matt often refuses to take golf lessons and prefers sitting in the cart after several poor attempts. Nevertheless, Matt’s skill set remains strong in activities like shooting hoops and competing in pickleball against professionals.

The younger Holliday highlighted his father‘s overall athletic competitiveness, which extends beyond just golf, illustrating the family’s sports-oriented mindset.

Thoughts on Sibling’s Prospects and Shared Dreams

Jackson also spoke about his brother Ethan’s talent and prospects as an upcoming baseball player. While they did not both envision becoming first overall draft picks, Jackson acknowledged Ethan’s exceptional ability and the possibility of him reaching that milestone in 2025.

“I don’t think ever had the dream of both being first overall picks,”

Jackson said.

“I always thought Ethan could probably do it … ever since he’s been a little kid, he’s always been extremely talented.”

The brothers have long shared aspirations of playing together in Major League Baseball, and Jackson expressed excitement at the thought of Ethan potentially being selected as the top pick, calling it “pretty sick.”

Jackson Holliday Reflects on Transition from Minors to Major League All-Star

In a conversation on the Ryan Ripken Show with MLB analyst Zach Bollinger, Jackson reflected on the challenges and lessons from advancing through the minor leagues to compete at the highest level. As he holds second place in Phase I of the All-Star voting, Jackson shared his perspective on trusting the journey despite setbacks.

“It’s been crazy … I always felt like Lord have plan for me,”

Holliday said.

“Obviously last year coming up, I didn’t really plan on being really bad and struggling. But I trusted his plan, and I like to think that all those moments led to where I’m at now. … Just really trusting the process and learning the game.”
