The New York Rangers have secured defenseman Scott Morrow along with a first- and second-round 2026 NHL Draft pick from the Carolina Hurricanes. This move, announced by Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury, was made in exchange for defenseman K’Andre Miller, marking a significant shift in the Rangers’ defensive lineup.

Scott Morrow’s Performance and Background

At 22 years old, Scott Morrow has shown promising talent during the 2024-25 season, contributing one goal and five assists in 14 NHL games with the Hurricanes. He also participated in five playoff games. Most of his season was spent with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League, where he totaled 39 points, including 13 goals and 26 assists in 52 games. Among Wolves players, Morrow ranked fourth in scoring, tied for third in assists, and tied for fourth in goals, leading all defensemen in these categories.

A native of Darien, Connecticut, Morrow played collegiate hockey for three years at the University of Massachusetts. Over 109 games, he recorded 28 goals and 66 assists, totaling 94 points. As a sophomore, he became the second UMass defenseman to achieve 30 or more points in multiple seasons. In his junior year, Morrow was third among all Hockey East defensemen in scoring and earned Third-Team All-Star honors by leading his team in assists (24) and points (30).

Draft History and Future Prospects

Morrow was selected by Carolina in the second round as the 40th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. This trade positions the Rangers to strengthen their defensive core with a versatile player who has demonstrated consistent skill at both collegiate and professional levels. Including two valuable draft selections in the deal offers the Rangers flexibility for future roster building.
