Trevor Lawrence explained the soreness in his throwing arm during the Jacksonville Jaguars’ recent minicamp as a result of taking several months off from throwing. The quarterback has been seen wearing a compression sleeve on his arm, which he said helps relieve the discomfort. This explanation comes amid heightened attention on player health during offseason activities.
Lawrence stated,
“You gotta think about, I haven’t thrown since before OTAs since December. It was about four months of not throwing. I can’t tell you the last time I didn’t throw for four months–I guess three years ago when I got surgery. So just going from that to, I started throwing a couple weeks before we started the offseason program, but then we jumped into practice, heavy volume, and I think just over time, obviously you gotta adjust and get into shape for that. So just a little bit of soreness. The compression helps, just relieves some of that. So that’s all it is. Nothing I’m concerned about.”

Comparison with Other Quarterbacks Managing Offseason Injuries
Concerns about quarterback health during voluntary offseason workouts have increased recently, exemplified by Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud’s hiatus from throwing due to a shoulder issue. Texans General Manager Nick Caserio emphasized the team’s cautious approach, downplaying the severity of Stroud’s condition and highlighting the focus on long-term readiness.
Caserio remarked,
“Honestly, it was much ado about nothing. In the spring, we’re just trying to make good, smart decisions.just manage the player as we see fit. In the end, the focus is on getting him ready for training camp. He had a good attitude when he was in the building. He obviously trained and worked on his body and his overall strength development which that’s what the offseason program is usually for.”

Team Motivation Linked to Legacy and Purpose
Apart from injury updates, the Indianapolis Colts organization is channeling motivation from the passing of their owner, Jim Irsay. Linebacker Zaire Franklin shared that the team’s purpose this offseason is driven by honoring Irsay’s legacy and inspiring everyone to perform at their best.
Franklin explained,
“I would really just say we’re a team with a purpose. With the passing of Jim Irsay, a great man who’s done not only so much for the city, but the state of Indiana, this season, and just honoring his legacy and continuing to bring his dream to fruition, is definitely extreme motivation. It’s one of those things that gets everybody on the same page where everybody is fighting and pulling in the same direction, for the same purpose.”

Significance of Managing Player Health During Offseason
The focus on managing Trevor Lawrence’s throwing arm soreness underscores the broader challenge NFL teams face balancing intensive offseason training with player health. With quarterbacks like Lawrence and Stroud taking different approaches to recovery and readiness, teams are closely monitoring their key players to ensure optimal performance once the regular season begins.

As minicamps continue, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans remain committed to carefully managing workloads to protect their franchise quarterbacks’ health. This cautious approach may help prevent long-term setbacks and set a foundation for success throughout the demanding NFL season.
