Dmitry Orlov agreed to a two-year contract worth $6.5 million annually, joining the Sharks after a 13-year career spanning the Washington Capitals, Boston Bruins, and Carolina Hurricanes. Orlov, who recorded six goals and 22 assists in 76 games last season with Carolina, brings 327 points over 867 NHL games. His proven playoff experience and Stanley Cup championship make him a key veteran addition to San Jose’s roster.
General Manager Mike Grier remarked on Orlov’s arrival, saying,
“Dmitry is a strong, two-way defenseman who brings physicality and versatility on the ice,”

“He has a wealth of NHL experience, both in the regular season and playoffs, and his Stanley Cup championship pedigree is a valuable addition to our team. We are happy to have him.”
Nick Leddy Joins Sharks via Waivers
Nick Leddy, a 34-year-old defenseman, was claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Blues. Leddy carries a $4 million average annual value for the 2025-26 season. With this acquisition, the Sharks increased their total salary by $10.5 million on Thursday, surpassing the $70.60 million salary floor mandated by the league. Currently, the team sits at $72.55 million for the upcoming season, second-lowest in the NHL.
Leddy’s NHL career spans 15 seasons with stops at the New York Islanders, Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, and Blues. Last season, he appeared in 31 games, tallying two goals and three assists. Over his extensive career, Leddy has amassed 416 points in 1,042 games and brings invaluable depth and leadership to the Sharks’ defense.
