Dallas Stars center Matt Duchene has extended his prayers for the missing children from Camp Mystic following severe flash floods in Texas Hill Country. The floods struck Kerr County on Friday, unleashing nearly a foot of rain and causing the Guadalupe River to overflow, resulting in tragic loss of life and widespread destruction.

The disaster claimed at least 51 lives, including 15 children, and left 27 girls missing from Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian summer camp situated along the river. Duchene expressed his sympathy through social media, offering hope for those impacted by the calamity.

“Thinking about and praying for all those affected by this tragedy.”

Rescue efforts have saved or evacuated over 850 people from the affected area, known for its long history of summer camps. As the situation unfolds, Duchene called on the public to keep those affected in their thoughts and prayers.

Support for families through Duchene’s community initiative

Beyond his response to the flood crisis, Matt Duchene is also recognized for his charitable work with cancer-affected families through “Duchene’s HockeyTonk.” This program, in partnership with the Dallas Stars, offers families an all-expenses-paid luxury suite at home games, providing them with a joyful escape and community support during difficult times.

The initiative began during Duchene’s tenure with the Nashville Predators and continues in Dallas, where families enjoy hockey events and have the opportunity to meet Duchene afterward for photos and autographs, creating lasting positive memories.

“It actually helps me as much as it helps the families,” said Matt Duchene. “If you have the ability, I think you want to give back. God has given me such a gift to be able to play this game and do what I do, I think it’s important to give back and be thankful for what you have.” —Matt Duchene, Dallas Stars forward

Fans can also contribute by purchasing the HockeyTonk suite on select game nights, with proceeds benefiting Cancer Support Community North Texas, further aiding families facing cancer challenges.

His prayers for the missing children from Camp Mystic and ongoing community support efforts reflect a hopeful spirit in the face of disaster.
