Maria Egee, the sister of professional tennis player Amanda Anisimova, was born in Moscow on January 4, 1988, to Konstantin Anisimov and Olga Anisimova. The family lived in Moscow until 1998, when the city was undergoing a financial crisis. Seeking better opportunities, they relocated to Colts Neck, New Jersey. While Amanda, born in 2001, grew up entirely in the United States, Maria spent much of her childhood in Russia before moving as a young girl.
College Tennis and Early Athletic Achievements
Maria followed her passion for tennis by playing at the University of Pennsylvania, where she excelled as a doubles player. During her freshman year in the 2006-2007 season, she and her partner Ekaterina Kominskaya made history as the first doubles team from UPenn to qualify for the NCAA championships. They ended that season ranked 46th nationally and secured a notable win over the 35th-ranked LSU team in the tournament’s opening round. Unfortunately, injuries forced Maria to miss her final collegiate season in 2009-2010, but her accomplishments remain commendable within the tennis community.
Maria’s Marriage to Fellow UPenn Athlete Kevin Egee
Maria’s connection to sports extended into her personal life through her marriage to Kevin Egee. The pair, who married on February 27, 2016, were college sweethearts that met during their time at the University of Pennsylvania. Kevin began his studies in 2005, a year ahead of Maria, and was a standout basketball player for the Quakers. In his senior season, he averaged 7.5 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Maria majored in economics and finished her studies in 2010. Together, they represent a successful athletic and academic partnership.
Career Transition to Finance
After her athletic pursuits, Maria shifted direction professionally and built a strong career in finance. As of January 2025, she began working as a Portfolio Manager at Loop Capital. Prior to that, she spent nearly seven years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and over seven years at Goldman Sachs. Her extensive experience in prestigious financial firms highlights her versatility and determination beyond the tennis courts.
Jaxon Egee Becomes a Wimbledon Highlight
During the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, Amanda Anisimova advanced to the quarterfinals with a victory over Anastasia Pavlyuchekova on July 8. After the match, Maria’s son Jaxon made a memorable appearance on the court, capturing the attention and affection of tennis fans worldwide. As Amanda prepares for the final scheduled for July 12, the family is poised to celebrate a significant milestone together if she secures the championship. Such an achievement would place Maria and her family firmly in the tennis spotlight once more, drawing admiration from the global tennis community.
