In Seattle on Sunday, Brittney Sykes‘s impressive performance in the final quarter, scoring 10 of her 19 points, helped the Washington Mystics defeat the Seattle Storm 74-69. Sykes’ fourth-quarter points proved crucial in turning the game around and sealing the win for Washington.

Sonia Citron contributed 17 points, while Kiki Iriafen achieved a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, tying the franchise rookie record for double-doubles alongside Chamique Holdsclaw with six this season.

Strong Contributions from Both Teams Highlight Intense Matchup

The Storm received a season-best 19 points from Ezi Magbegor, complemented by 16 points from Nneka Ogwumike and 10 from Skylar Diggins. Tiffany Mitchell, recently signed by Seattle after being waived by Las Vegas, added 12 points in her debut on the team.

In the final moments, Ogwumike’s layup reduced Washington’s lead to 70-69 with just over 40 seconds remaining, but Sykes quickly countered with a driving layup. After Diggins stepped out of bounds with 17 seconds left, Sykes made two free throws to finalize the score.

Diggins also recorded four assists during the game, tying her with New York’s Natasha Cloud for eighth place on the WNBA‘s all-time career assists leaderboard with 1,638.

The Mystics took control late with a 15-4 run to lead 62-61 at the 4:28 mark, capped by Citron’s three-pointer and a driving layup. Despite this, Seattle faced challenges, shooting only 36 percent from the field (25 of 69 attempts).

Seattle’s Gabby Williams left the game limping in the closing seconds, finishing with six points on 2-of-9 shooting, along with five rebounds and four assists.
