Although Max Fried did not take the mound during Tuesday night’s All-Star Game, his presence was felt throughout the event as he embraced the role of the beloved “Uncle Max.” Fried spent those days supporting fellow southpaw Carlos Rodon and his family, creating memorable moments off the field while maintaining his strong season performance.
Max Fried’s Off-Field Support and Family Moments
On Monday and Tuesday, Fried joined Carlos Rodon and his family for quality time at the All-Star festivities. During Monday night’s Home Run Derby, Fried, Rodon, and Rodon’s four-year-old son, Bo, relaxed on the field together. When Rodon shared photos of the trio, Gerrit Cole’s wife, Amy, perfectly captured Fried’s new honorary role by calling him “Uncle Max.”
The family connection continued on Tuesday as they appeared together on the red carpet. Carlos Rodon and his sons, Bo and Silo, looked sharp in coordinating purple and black attire. After Bo grew tired and Rodon paused for an interview with MLB Network, Fried stepped in to carry the toddler through the photo sessions. Rodon’s wife, Ashley, was heard affectionately calling Fried “Uncle Max” from behind the camera, officially sealing the nickname.
Max Fried’s Outstanding Season on the Mound
While Fried’s All-Star Game pitching appearance was deferred, his season statistics remain impressive. Over 20 starts, Fried holds an 11–3 record with a 2.43 ERA, 113 strikeouts, and an excellent 1.01 WHIP across 122 innings. His dominant April earned him the American League Pitcher of the Month award, and he continues to be a strong contender for the Cy Young Award.
Carlos Rodon, who was named as Fried’s replacement in the All-Star Game, has also had a solid season. After overcoming a challenging start in pinstripes, Rodon currently has a 10–6 record with a 3.08 ERA, 135 strikeouts, and a 1.00 WHIP in just under 120 innings over 20 starts.
Balancing Fun and Focus During All-Star Week
Even though Fried did not pitch in the All-Star Game, he has remained actively involved in the festivities and supportive of teammates. His mix of professional excellence and genuine family-style camaraderie has earned him wide affection, with the “Uncle Max” title becoming as treasured as his on-field accolades.
As the season continues, Fried’s combination of skill and character suggests he will remain a standout in both the clubhouse and the league.
