Pierre Gasly on Christian Horner: Expecting F1 Return After Red Bull Sacking Surprise
Pierre Gasly praises Christian Horner's leadership and predicts his swift return to Formula 1 with another team.

Former Red Bull driver Pierre Gasly believes Christian Horner will make a return to Formula 1 with another team following his recent dismissal as Red Bull Racing’s team principal and CEO. Horner, who led Red Bull since 2005, was replaced just days after the British Grand Prix, sparking speculation about his next move in the sport.

Christian Horner’s Legacy at Red Bull Racing

Christian Horner’s two-decade tenure at Red Bull was marked by extraordinary success, having steered the team to six constructorschampionships and guiding drivers to eight world titles. His leadership played a crucial role in building Red Bull into one of the dominant forces in Formula 1. Despite this impressive record, Horner was unexpectedly removed from his position recently, with Laurent Mekies stepping up from Racing Bulls to fill the role.

Pierre Gasly’s Perspective on Horner’s Impact

Pierre Gasly, who joined Red Bull’s senior team in 2019 but lost his race seat after 12 events, maintained a professional relationship with Horner during his time there. Gasly later achieved a remarkable victory at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix while racing for AlphaTauri before transferring to Alpine in 2023. He expressed high regard for Horner’s capabilities and the transformation he brought to Red Bull.

Gasly highlighted Horner’s consistent success and ability to manage a top-tier Formula 1 team, stating,

“I think his qualities are undoubtable because when you’ve got the number of championships in 20 years of career,”

and added,

“You can only respect all the success with the team, and what he’s done with Red Bull Racing over there, it’s very remarkable and very impressive. He is very, very good at what he’s been doing with the team.”

Expectations for Horner’s Next Role in F1

Given Horner’s experience and proven track record, Gasly believes other teams aiming to enhance their competitiveness could seek his leadership. He noted,

“I’m sure we’re gonna see him somewhere because with that sort of experience and skills, I’m sure some teams will be interested in Christian.”

Gasly’s comments indicate a strong belief that Horner’s expertise will continue to influence the sport.

Relationship Between Gasly, Helmut Marko, and Horner

Gasly shared insights into his closer connection with Helmut Marko, who has long been a key figure linking drivers within Red Bull’s structure. Marko coached Gasly from a young age and was instrumental in his signing. Gasly said he had less direct contact with Horner but acknowledged the team principal’s important role, mentioning,

“I got to know Christian a bit later through the process and being part of the academy side. Less contact with him, but still some and for sure he has been doing very well with Red Bull.”

Christian Horner’s departure marks a significant change in Formula 1’s leadership landscape, and many within the paddock expect that his wealth of experience will soon be in demand once again. As teams look to strengthen their management squads, Horner’s next appointment could shape the competitive balance in the upcoming seasons.
