Creed Humphrey on Chiefs Offensive Line: New Talent, Intense Competition, and a Fresh Start for 2025 Season
Creed Humphrey leads Chiefs offensive line's transformation, aiming for strength and readiness ahead of the 2025 season.

The Kansas City Chiefs are entering the 2025 season with a renewed focus on improving their offensive line, a key concern following their performance in Super Bowl LIX. Recognizing weaknesses from last season, the Chiefs made deliberate moves during the offseason to enhance their competitiveness, particularly by addressing the left tackle position and overall line depth.

New Additions Bring Fresh Competition and Depth

To bolster the offensive line, the Chiefs selected Josh Simmons with the last pick of the first round in the 2025 NFL Draft, aiming to secure the left tackle spot. Additionally, the team added veteran Jaylon Moore during the offseason to provide experienced depth across the line. As training camp begins, veterans Creed Humphrey at center and Trey Smith at right guard, who recently signed a contract extension, will anchor the line.

Younger players Kingsley Suamataia and Mike Caliendo are set to compete for the left guard position, intensifying the competition and pushing the line toward stronger cohesion and performance.

Training Camp Sparks Encouraging Signs for Offensive Line Chemistry

After the third day of training camp, Creed Humphrey shared his early impressions of the new team setup. He emphasized the importance of building chemistry through practice reps and testing themselves against the challenge of defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s defense. Humphrey expressed optimism about the talent brought into the room and the productive competition it has created.

“I think just getting the chemistry down with the offensive line. So that’s why camp’s really good for this. You get a ton of reps in, a ton of looks against Spag’s defense. So it’s preparing you all for the season. So we’re excited about it. We’ve got some really good talent in that room right now, and it’s gonna be a really good competition,” —Creed Humphrey, Center

Learning from Last Season’s Setback to Fuel Improvement

The offensive line’s performance in the Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles remains a motivating factor for the unit. Humphrey acknowledges the offseason as a critical period for learning and growth, and he is personally committed to daily improvement. He believes the team is focused on overcoming past frustrations and turning the lessons into better play for 2025.

“For us, it’s that we learn from it and we’re moving past it. We have a lot of stuff to work on, and we know that. And for us, it’s improving every single day. So you learn what you can and then you move on, and you’re ready to get that feeling off you. So we’re looking forward to getting in here, working, and training. I’m going against the great D-line that we have, and I’m just improving. And ready to show in Week 1.” —Creed Humphrey, Center

Outlook for the 2025 Season and Offensive Line Prospects

With a blend of promising new talent and experienced starters, the Chiefs’ offensive line aims to close the gaps exposed last season and build a foundation for sustained success. The competition in training camp is expected to sharpen the group, helping them face tough defensive fronts throughout the season. For Creed Humphrey and his teammates, the focus remains on preparation, unity, and delivering a stronger performance when the 2025 season kicks off.
