Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Josh Hines-Allen revealed on Friday that his seven-year-old son, Wesley, is making progress in his recovery from acute promyelocytic leukemia. The update came nearly a year after Wesley’s diagnosis, which followed symptoms including a fever and tooth bleeding just before the NFL season finale that Hines-Allen missed for personal reasons.
Details on Wesley’s Treatment and Recovery
Wesley underwent six months of chemotherapy and still has a few treatments left before he can celebrate by ringing the traditional bell at Nemours Children’s Health in Jacksonville next month. His mother, Kaitlyn, described Wesley’s current condition as positive, highlighting his daily swimming and active participation in sports. Josh Hines-Allen added that Wesley has returned to his role as the caring older sibling.
Launch of Four One For Hope Campaign Supporting Cancer Charities
Alongside the health update, Josh and Kaitlyn introduced a new initiative through their nonprofit, Four One For All. The campaign, called Four One For Hope, will run throughout the NFL regular season, directing support to four cancer-related organizations. Contributions will be allocated monthly to Nemours Children’s Hospital in September, the American Cancer Society and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Jacksonville in October, and the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation in December.
Personal Reflections and Motivations Behind the Campaign
Josh Hines-Allen expressed the family’s intention behind the campaign, stating,
“Our goal is to ensure that families going through something similar feel the same level of love and support as we did,”
underlining their desire to provide comfort for others facing similar challenges.
Hines-Allen’s Professional Highlights
Josh Hines-Allen has established himself as a key player for the Jacksonville Jaguars in six NFL seasons. He is a two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher with 53 career sacks, just two short of the franchise record by Tony Brackens.
