Indiana Pacers general manager Chad Buchanan has announced that the team will adopt an aggressive approach to trades during the remainder of the offseason. Although the Pacers have completed only one trade so far—acquiring center Jay Huff from the Memphis Grizzlies—they remain focused on improving the roster rather than making moves for the sake of change.
Building Around Emerging Talent Amid Haliburton’s Absence
With guard Tyrese Haliburton sidelined for the entire upcoming season due to injury, Buchanan emphasized the role of Andrew Nembhard in filling the void. He expressed confidence that Nembhard will make the most significant advancement among the Pacers’ guards and is prepared to shoulder more responsibility on the court.
Tyrese Haliburton’s Unexpected Contribution Off the Court
Even though Haliburton will not be playing next season, Buchanan revealed that the star guard will still play an important part in the team’s operations. Specifically, Haliburton is expected to assist with scouting and trade evaluations, leveraging his deep understanding of the NBA and draft processes.
“You’ll see him out, we’ll probably lean on him doing some scouting next year for us to have him help with trades,”
Buchanan said.
“He’s very intelligent when it comes to the NBA and the Draft.”

Buchanan’s focus on meaningful improvements suggests that the team is committed to maintaining competitiveness while developing promising talent like Andrew Nembhard. Haliburton’s unexpected role in scouting also highlights the innovative ways the franchise is adapting to challenges.
