The Toronto Sceptres have confirmed the re-signing of defender Anna Kjellbin for the 2025-26 season, strengthening their defensive roster. This announcement on Wednesday marks Kjellbin’s return after joining the team last season, reinforcing the Sceptres’ depth on the blue line.
Kjellbin’s Impact Since Joining the Sceptres
Kjellbin was acquired from the Montreal Victoire at the trade deadline last year in exchange for Kaitlin Willoughby. She played in seven regular-season games, contributing two assists and averaging just over 10 minutes of ice time per contest. A native of Göteberg, Sweden, she took part in all four games of Toronto’s semifinal series against the Minnesota Frost, scoring her first <a href="https://www.buzzineintl.com/category/hockey/pwhl/”>PWHL goal in Game 3, though the Sceptres were ultimately defeated in four games by the eventual Walter Cup champions.
Positive Experience Motivates Kjellbin’s Return
Despite the playoff loss, Kjellbin expressed enthusiasm for returning next season.
“I’m excited to be returning to Toronto for another season,”
Kjellbin said in a release.
“After joining the team late in the year, I felt so welcomed and I can’t wait to get started for another season.”
Career Background and International Credentials
Kjellbin was originally drafted in the sixth round, 35th overall, by Montreal in the 2024 PWHL Draft. During her time with Montreal, she appeared in 18 games, registering one assist and a -5 plus/minus rating. Overall, she posted three assists in 25 regular-season games with a -6 rating. Beyond the PWHL, Kjellbin’s career highlights include eight seasons in the Swedish Women’s Hockey League (SDHL), as well as international experience representing Sweden. She has captained the national team at the IIHF Women’s World Championship and competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Sceptres Continue Building Roster with Key Re-signings
Anna Kjellbin becomes the fifth player to re-sign with the Sceptres, joining defender Kali Flanagan and forward Natalie Spooner among others. With seven defenders now signed to standard contracts for the upcoming season, the team has filled 18 of their 23 available roster spots, signaling steady progress as they prepare for 2025-26.
