As he prepares for the 2024 campaign, Hyatt is focusing on building his confidence and seizing a fresh opportunity within a revamped Giants offense led by veteran quarterback Russell Wilson.
Wilson’s Presence Boosts Hyatt’s Confidence
During an interview with Evan Barnes of Newsday, Hyatt spoke candidly about the positive impact of playing alongside Wilson, whose career accomplishments have inspired the young wide receiver. Hyatt emphasized how Wilson’s support has encouraged him to unlock his potential.
“It definitely brings confidence,” Hyatt said about playing alongside Wilson. “Especially with the type of player Russ is and what he has done in his career, for him to say that, it just brought confidence for me.”
The Giants quarterback acknowledged Hyatt’s untapped abilities during his introductory press conference in March, setting a hopeful tone for the wide receiver’s development. Wilson also organized a private workout with Hyatt in Los Angeles to foster their growing rapport.
“He’s been texting me 24/7, calling me,” Hyatt shared about their relationship. “We’ve been working [together] 24/7, and I didn’t really have that from the quarterback. Just proud that he’s here.”
Hyatt’s Determination to Make an Impact in 2024
Hyatt has expressed confidence in his skills ahead of the new season, vowing last summer that he would score his first NFL touchdown in Week 1 of 2024. Despite finishing last year with just eight receptions for 62 yards, Hyatt remains determined to contribute more significantly.
With Wilson expected to start as the Giants’ primary quarterback barring injury or unexpected changes, Hyatt sees his chance to shine alongside an experienced signal-caller as a key factor in his growth.
“Just blessed that [Wilson’s] a part of this team,” Hyatt added. “We got to make plays for him. I gotta make plays. That’s what it is at the end of the day.”
Giants’ Offensive Strategy and Future Outlook
Head coach Brian Daboll appears optimistic that Hyatt’s speed will mesh well with Wilson’s tendency to throw deep passes, known as “moon balls.” This strategic alignment will be tested starting with the Giants’ regular-season opener against the Washington Commanders on September 7. However, Wilson might only start a few games before rookie Jaxson Dart takes over under center.
