Kevin King, veteran NFL cornerback, released by Falcons; seeks new opportunity to showcase versatility in upcoming season.

The Atlanta Falcons released Kevin King, the veteran NFL cornerback, on Thursday as part of roster changes before their training camp. This move came just three months after the Falcons signed King to a one-year deal, signaling a new phase for the defender as he looks for another chance in the league.

King’s Role and Contributions in Atlanta

King appeared in 15 games last season with the Falcons, starting in one matchup. During his time on the field, he registered 10 tackles, two pass breakups, and recovered a fumble. Most of his playing time in 2024—over two-thirds of his snaps—came on special teams, underscoring his adaptability and usefulness beyond just the defensive backfield.

Kevin King’s NFL Career and Challenges

Drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, King played 66 professional games and recorded 200 tackles alongside seven interceptions throughout his career. His first five seasons with Green Bay saw him establish a solid presence in their secondary.

However, King faced setbacks when he missed the 2022 season and then tore his Achilles tendon, causing him to miss the entire 2023 campaign. This year was hoped to be a return to form following that serious injury, but now at 30 years old, King must navigate what lies ahead for his football career.

The Road Ahead for King in the NFL

Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 200 pounds, King has the physical traits to attract teams seeking a dependable tackling defensive back and special teams player. With the Falcons moving forward without him, the coming weeks will be crucial as King searches for a new team where he can prove his durability and skill once again.
